Is it unfair to assume that the majority of people dont like listening to metal as much as any other

Man, my band just auditioned for something... we got in right, but they gave us a short set even though we got a fucking good review ?... they said: people dont wanna listen to metal for as long as they wanna listen to rock. hmmm.

why is there different timing?
all bands should have the same timing, in the name of fairness.
and if ppl favour rock, then have more rock bands, instead of giving you'all a short set.

oi tyler. could you check whether xanadoo went in? i think you were in the room at the time of our audition, remember the metallica kids?

We're DYING from this agony of not knowing the outcome of this audition, so thanks!

i dont think its unfair to assume that people wont wanna listen to metal. but it wud be fucking unfair if metal bands were given a shorter set or if they were disadvantaged. the organisers must have been really shallow.

Best thing to do here is just jump ship. If organizers simply don't like metal then why bother staying in that competition/gig. Better to find organizers who are into the genre that your most passionate about. Well my 2 cents worth I guess. :?

Geez. Since you guys have got a really good review, it means people DO want to listen to you. Well the organisers of that gig must be really narrow minded to think that way. Since you're in, just make full use of the time given and rock the whole stage! Even better if there're people shouting for an encore after your band ends the set. It'll just prove that people DO wanna listen to you guys!

i think they should just pick less metal bands if they think people want to hear more rock and less metal. but you guys definitely shouldn't be getting shorter sets, that's not cool!!! you should get a full set, same as everyone else!

i'd rather listen to more metal than alt or punk..there are boatloads of these bands out there they need more metal bands!

My opinion is that organisers have their own set of agendas to fullfill. If you feel compromised on your end, you should be diplomatic and have a discussion with them. If the discussion does not end in a favourable agreement to both parties, you have to make a choice whether to accept their conditions, or just pull out of the event.

If you accept their conditions to perform, then you have to be steady about it. Just treat it as part and parcel of being a musician, sometime you have fresh fish and meat sometime you just have to make do with bread and water.

heck the length of the set and just concentrate on delivering the performance.

i remember reading somewhere last time, when minutemen opened for REM ('80s or '70s i cant remember) they were given 30 mins or something, and they played 40 songs. HAHA!

lets go indie!
the first time i heard of that , I thought the bands were playing Indie... as in yeah, Indian.
Then I thought to myself, but can these featured(purevolume) American bands really sing Indian?
I realised Indie meant Independant.

I would have given the same timing but less metal bands, for example ROS. There is no sensible economy in having shorter set.

in my opinion, mixed genre gigs dont usually work out. say all you want about opening peoples minds to other genres or whatever, but what usually happens is that when a metal band plays, the punk crowd leaves, goes to eat,or starts trouble and vice versa. replace "metal" and "punk" with whatever genre you want.

im not saying its completely bad, there were many occasions where mixed genre gigs made me aware of pretty good bands i wouldnt have known about otherwise, but sadly alot of people's minds remain closed.

hmmm... nope, dun think so...

in a situation like this, either work sumthing better out with the organisers, or if there's no solution, just make the most out of it... give it ur best shot during ur given time... have the "prove them wrong" attitude...

if u're successful in doing that, they'll realised their foolish mistake... if not, then its ok! cuz its still their foolish mistake...

so just give it ur best shot! :)

discrimination against genres? gasp.

but really. just because you guys are a metal band, and they so call claim that their target audience isn't into metal it shouldn't be an excuse to cut your set short.

i'm not a fan of metal, but i can sit down and attempt to appreciate the music. if not the music than the abilities of the musicians. but yeah. not everyone is able to do that. *pats back*
