Muddy tone

Hi all, recently got a epi LP custom and I realised the stock pickups were a bit on the muddy side. Or at least too muddy for my liking. So I was wondering whether installing stuff like treble bleed would solve the problem for me?

Other suggestions are welcome. (Besides changing the pickups of course)

Either: Lower your pickup height, or lower your gain.

Lower the pup height first.

Play clean and observe how your tone sounds when you lower/raise the pickup height. It should be obvious.


By the way, your understanding of the guitar treble bleed mod is wrong. Research a little more.

Treble bleed will not solve your problem. Treble bleed mod is for the volume control. Without the treble bleed, you lose treble as you reduce the volume.

the pickups on an epi lp custom should be good enough. like they mentioned, it should be the pickup height. do google on it and experiment.
