I am doing a part time Masters in Business, but i do come from a Mass Communication background. Apparently, the situation in Singapore happens to be such that the government views all potential views as threats, and are therefore, curbed before it is seen to "cause" outcry, uncertain and distrust in the constitution.
Ironically, the government condemned the sayings, at the expense of major criticism from foreign agencies. As such, Singapore isn't a full democratic country. It should have just left it, given the fact that listeners just take it as a joke, and won't probably even promote it in a real context.
To conclude, PAP feels vulnerable over its position in Singapore in the long run, with the majority of youths going against anti-PAP values of being collectivistic and highly-contextual. Whatever the outcome, I believe it means no harm, just as for Russell Peters, on his roots as an Indian. If you ask me, PAP are equally corrupted according to credible internal sources from staff of the various ministries. It just so happens that PAP are has the ability to cover up any corruption behind closed doors. My lecturers even mentioned that local papers are restricted from writing news against PAP, lest they face criminal prosecution. This is pure injustice, and despite their efforts to make Singapore prosperous, it has its vices and stills follows a typical feudal system utilised in ancient times.
Good day to everyone, anything, just PM me.. I've yet to lash out at PAP for the rejection of my deferment from NS due to CMPB's incompetence of answering questions and advising with regards to studies. It's just plain ridiculous. Worse of all, I realise as much as PAP wants to cater to the ordinary people, most of them either have been brought up in a affluent family, or either that, they are just seeing the "unreal" citizens during their rounds. I mean, who would show a black face to the ministers upon seeing them? We just smile, and with that, they assume we are happy. Statistics accounting for the economy also are due to manipulation of certain figures, as well as the spendings of the rich only.
