Most sought after delay pedal

Line6 DL4!!!! hur hur hur. simply the best modeller evah!!! that to me is good enough even though i've got a bunch of other analog and digital delays.

^ Amen to that. Was actually attempting to save up for it, then I learned of the Empress and instant gratification took over. But the Superdelay is one incredible delay. Still.. Echoczar.. *drool*

imo, its these 2:

1) The Moog Delay

tried it at SoulJah's house through his divided by 13 amp and was blown away by the sound. It sounded much better than the Fulltone TTE which i also tried at ebenex and the sound is very full and does not mess with your dry signal. It also sounded really, really dark as the repeats decayed. The ultimate analog delay to own if you got the moolah.

2)Akai E2 Headrush

Add digital delay, echo and killer looping capabilities and tap tempo into one package and you got the headrush. Even Kt Turnstall uses one and im not surprised why. The looper is possibly the clearest looper i've ever heard coming from a non-dedicated looping unit.

interestingly, when i compared the echoczar and moog delay, the characteristic of the moog repeats is much clearer then the former imho.

since there were some mentioned of digital delay stuff, i have a personal favourite(in term of features and amount of tweaking possibilities), aka yamaha ud stomp

Its a freaking massive of a delay in pedal format. Most delay pedal although having various different type of delay, at anytime, only one of 2 delay can be used at the same time. Within the ud stomp, theres 8 separate delay(each with its own parameter control) which can be combined in series or parallel to get flanger, chorus and some really cool sounding special effect sound. Its weird that yamaha discontinued it, as per other pedals they have.

test test

heh, since we are on delay, heres a blind test for it, the delay pedals on test are shown in the pic. Each delay is tweaked to roughly the same timing and repeat, riff played also about the same. Sound recorded via zoom h4 randomly placed somewhere near amp.

mxr carbon copy was borrowed item just to test out a while ago.

there are totally 5 clips in there, last one is a combination of 4 delay pedal all activated at the same time. For each delay pedal, there will be seconds of silence after its being played, before moving on to the next delay pedal. If anyone interested, have a listen and list out, which sound is from which delay pedal in following format

http://www.soundclick.com/util/getplayer.m3u?id=7425980&q=hi

1) (start~1m 05sec)
2) (1m 08sec ~ 2m 14sec)
3) (2m 16sec ~ 3m 28sec)
4) (3m 32sec ~ 4m 45sec)

4m 50sec onwards, its all the delay activated together

have fun

Gonna take a wild guess here, judging only by what I've heard about the pedals and online demos.

1)Moog
2)Carbon Copy
3)Akai
4)Echoczar

Amirite?

for anyone interested, i will send a pm on the actual sequence after making the guess.

one of the observation which i gotten after trying and having some of the more higher end delay pedal is that the difference between those, can be only slightly different in the repeat characteristic(for some it might be the most important thing, wheras for me personally, this tiny lil "tone" is almost negligible). Whats more interesting are the features and "unexpected" result from playihg with it

echoczar has this touch sentivity characteristic which according to the repeat setting and picking dynamic, can actually control the delay from going into oscillation and normal delay repeats. Oscillation for some prolly not too useful, but imho, its fun when needing some "outside" sound to play with

the moog one, between the short and long delay setting, if switching it when the delay is going on, can either drop the repeat by one octave(from short to long) or raise it by one octave(from long to short). Throw in some oscillation and other effect pedals in the effect loop of the pedal, can yield some interesting texture when changing the short and long delay setting.

Pathein, the beauty of the Moog delay is actually the CLARITY present...the clarity of the repeats are still quite clear even as they decay with each repeat but it gets darker and warmer sounding each time. Something that I've yet to hear other delays do as well, except maybe the fulltone tte and the space echo but they tend to muddy up the repeats as well. The Moog dosent have this flaw although thats what alot of ppl want in an analog delay anyways-hell its supposed to be noisy and vintage, so to speak. The moog is as quiet as a mouse but it retains all the clarity and warmth and its easier to set and forget since the repeats do not get so muddy like most of its ilk.

yup, the clarity of the moog one is something which i like. I remember telling some friends couple years back that the moog delay is a good in between(in term of just the delay basic characteristic), between some of my digital delays and echoczar.

in my own usage context, the clarity prolly aint too much important most of the time. Some picking dynamics can help in retaing clarity or mushing it up as well.

heres something extra for this thread.

this is one delay which i love and it doesnt even sound like delay at all. I have mentioned quite a number of time round here on the delay, guess there some who prolly know which pedal is it..
