Mommy...

seriously, how many people in this post have actually seen clips of how those instrument are played, how does it sound like and in what area it will fit into the genre of music where musician played those instrument

Its really really weird seeing people talking how big, how gimmicky or even nonsense those thing are when having such little understanding about it.

And iam not trying to act smart or anything like that. But do make an effort to find out more first before shooting off, it really doesnt make the forum look good to people who are surfing by to find some posts like that....

as for the "resonator gu zheng", its more likely a lapsteel......

wow 8O the way they play this kinnda thing & the sound they produce really make my eyes pop out @.@ maybe im "shua ku" haben seen this kinna stuffs before..the 2nd vid last song really nice :D shld check it out

i've seen those pics at another forum before, kinda sick actually, gotta relearn how to play the instrument in order to play the monstrous re-incarnations, hahahahahaha

ok,im not trying to be smart or wad but lets say i give u 15 strings guitar, can u play all the notes on the fretboard? will u have trouble moving around and gripping the neck for certain position? and wont ur shoulder feel tired supporting that monster? simply to say,its troublesome

and mind u,more strings doesnt affect the genre that u'll play, even with 4 strings,u can play all kind of genre

1 last thing,i dun give a damn to what people see when they look at the forum, forum is a place where we give our oppinion and share our experience, why should i write all the nice" things when i feel the other way round? just for the sake to look nice? cheers [no offense]

well... sad to say, the guys here dont work that way...
they just flame on and on.. (not refering to you Brundi, alot of ppl do talk trash here.)

i guess they refer it to a resonator cos of the glass slide on the finger used when playing. and it sit like a gu zhen... hehe

hehe, i've never seen a fretted gu zhen before anyway, those guys in the ancient times must be damn pro yeah? fretless !

so far, what i've seen, is that those impossible instruments are for tappers. two handed tapping. a very piano-ish sound, but with the added advantage of string sliding, vibrato and stuff....

it is heavy yes, but i guess one will get used to it.

a forum with so many kids giving opinions that make it look so juvenile and naive. Perhaps it doesnt mean anything to you, but soft, as a local portal for music and stuff, is going to look bad with dudes like you around.....

of course you can dont give a damned about anything, its your freedom afterall, i respect that. I have been young before, i know what is it like to be in your shoe. But that was so long ago. Hey dude, you have a long way to go and learn about things. Have fun

Just did a casual search on the meaning of the word FORUM...

1.
1. The public square or marketplace of an ancient Roman city that was the assembly place for judicial activity and public business.
2. A public meeting place for open discussion.
3. A medium of open discussion or voicing of ideas, such as a newspaper or a radio or television program.
2. A public meeting or presentation involving a discussion usually among experts and often including audience participation.
3. A court of law; a tribunal.

its not to say small kids have no place in forums, though adults prefer it to be a place of formal discussion. But really, think before you speak. Dont waste people's time

1. it's not a resonator, it's a lap steel guitar. a lap steel is played with the guitar across the lap, and a plucking and picking/sliding hand, and looks like playing a gu zhen.

2. a resonator is a guitar that looks like a concert acoustic guitar except that it's metal. it's called a resonator guitar because it has metal cones and chambers which resonate and help amplify the sound.

3. yes, those large and unwieldy-looking basses are often played using tapping. you can get some amazing virtuoso bass stuff from people proficient in playing basses like that. it's really pretty amazing to watch.

juz wondering, how much does one of those monster-sized bass guits cost?

Expensive. Using Conklin as an example, a 9 string bass has a base price of $5100 USD, without all the additional fancy stuff like wood tops, number of frets etc.

it's played with 2-handed tapping. just like a piano. but like someone said, you can do the cool guitar tricks like sliding and bending on it too. check out the vids. you'll be awed by how good it sounds.

Okok relax relax. Don't want this to become a flame war. I'm just expressing my honest opinion and no i'm not not a kid. pretty old already. Anyway come on lah give people a break. this is just a guitar forum not a scientific conference on global warming.
I've seen those bases before but did not know they they are used for tapping. Hmm..learnt something today.

Well, it's a coincidence that i just saw someone play this on MTV. It's this show called "VH1 Save The Music". Rob Thomas (lead singer of Matchbox Twenty) was performing with this guy he called Guitar God. Well, that guy played the 12 stringer like the chinese orchestra instrument (GuZheng i think), you know the one where you rest it on your lap and use your finger to pluck? Well, he had this metal piece on his left hand and slided it on the strings while flicking with his right plucking hand. Man.. it sounds too good! I don't think you can get that kind of sound even from the best 6-string guitarist, cos the sound produced is too complicated!
that sounds more like a lap steel to me than a 11-string bass. Lap steels... as in the stuff which leo fender used to make way before the strat

i think lap steel is not so commonly used right ?

its more commonly known as a steel guitar / steel pedal ..

the steel guitar heard in the soundtrack of Blue hawaii ( starring elvis presely) was custom made by leo fender himself
