Mods:
- Enlarged pickup cavity and installed EMG 707s
- Tremolo arm changed to Schaller arm (thanks to good ol' Shredcows)
- Installed Varitone with orange caps from www.has-sound.com
- Installed 2 EMG Dmsk switches, one for each pickup
- Changed pickup selector from 5-way to 3-way
- Enlarged control cavity to accomodate the new electronics
- Routed and installed 18v battery pack
- Installed Hipshot Tremsetter

Hehe, i'm still thinking of scalloping the last 7 frets, but i think i'm gonna leave that for much later ;)

MOD BUDDY!

Glad you love the Varitone! Stan makes great stuff. ;)

That schaller arm was a KILLER... ugh... :) Thanks to John for helping me drill out the old arm holder. :P

CLIPS CLIPS CLIPS?!?!?! WHERE ARE THE AUDIO FILES?!?

No clips yet la! haha. Wait for me to get back to Singapore. I forgot to install my recording software before i came so i can't record stuff. Heh. 14 weeks to go before you'll get to try it!!!

*Edit*

Oh yea, i forgot to add, varitones work with actives ;)

Nah, ain't selling 'em. Keeping them for spare just in case i acquire another 7 with inferior pickups. Sorry man, will let'cha know if i ever decide to let them go.

They aren't soapbars. It's a full sized humbucker, just that it's placed in a bass pickup housing.

very nice.. im still hesistant to switch to 707s because of the routing needed..its not something you can go back from easily. emg should offer these in a standard size like the 81-7 model..

Hmm, i think the 81-7s are not standard size, they require routing as well.

Quoted this off EMG's FAQ section:

"the EMG-707 and 81/7 are NOT direct replacement pickups, as they utilize a 35 Extended Series cover cap. You may have to modify your instrument to be able to use them."

There was this site i've seen before, can't remember which sorry, but they sell 7 string pickup rings which may be able to cover up the routed area if you happen not to like the actives. But it's still precious wood lost, so yea, it's really a hit or miss thing, given that we don't have many guitars around with 707/81-7 to try out.

really nice modded.. but whatsup with the springs? what is it used for?

btw how much does it cost to do such a mod?

thanks

The springs?
I use more with the tremsetter because i'm on .10s, and i prefer the bridge a little stiffer, not a fan of whammy antics.
But they help keep my guitar in tune even if i break a string. Maybe not exactly in tune but relatively. Yea.
