i noe this is off topic..

but maybe some softies may be doctors or smth..

or rather sumone with sum medical knowledge..

my question is..how to cure cancer??

hahaha...no lar...

my question is..

if lets say u fell and got a minor wound..will applying salt make it worse?or will it make the wound heal faster??

cos..for like mouth ulcers..i juz apply salt on it and its gone like the next day..

so..is putting salt on a MINOR wound ok?

it would help.

you can take a dip in the sea- same effect. always did that when i was younger (& more proximate to Marine Parade); i often fell off my bike... :smt109

yeah, dipping a minor wound in the sea actually helps. theres some sort of theory behind it. i think its the salt neutralizing whateva....

i got cut on the beach by a sharp object and my dad asked me to go dip in the sea. i yelled in pain for a sec, then everything seemed okay.

I drip the blood into a cup and smear it over my guitar then play some long NIIIIIIII NININININI NIIIIIIIIIIIIIII sounding solo ....

Hmm.

LOL rob zombie's guitarist Riggs used to play/still is playing a clear plastic guitar which has cow blood sloshing around on the inside cavity. He would use that instrument live.. and I'm thinking... gosh.. wouldn't the blood just suck the tone out of that guitar..? But then again.. it's a plastic guitar.. what tone in the first place.. right?

erm...im nt rilli talking abt sea water..

im talkin more abt like..erm...table salt..

like those u put in food...

SODIUM CHOLRIDE...

yea..tt salt..

its okay..i love the pain.

hmm ....

my opinion is...

this is not really off topic because the whole thread is on sea water being the cure for owounds :D

But...actually...the topic says that its 'off topic' but the thread is actually about sea water being the cure for wounds....

hmm i guess it IS offtopic 8O

i think u meant sea as in maldives or perhaps dubai.. i wouldn't count on our east coast or pasir ris beach.. the sea water there would probably turn ur minor wound into a major wound.. anyway i remember when i pierced my tongue, the piercer advised me to gurgle with sea salt water.. u can buy sea salt from any supermarket..

We do clean certain minor wounds which are superficial with sodium chloride solution aka normal saline 0.9%. For infected wound, we use chlorhexidene solution. Its ok to use table salt as first aid, it works though not really recommended in clinical setting. Please do clean the hands before applying anything on the wound to prevent any funny2 infection yah. :)

Unless you are in a developing countries, there are so many simple alternatives you can do - just go to the pharmacy to get some antiseptic cream, make sure you wash your wound etc.

Using salt water is OK - but we usually use normal saline which is isotonic (ie 0.9%). If you think you can get it right at that concentration, then fine.

However, rubbing pure salt is too hypertonic. It's fine if your somewhere in the jungle and wants to disinfect your wound. But in Singapore, there's no point. High salt concentration kills bacteria - but also kills your cells that's in the open wound. So it may actually delay healing since the cells are trying to repair and you kill them off with salt. Same thing with high concentration salt solution.

So conclusion - go to Guardian Pharmacy for minor wounds. Or just clean with soap and put on a plaster. Infected wounds - see your GP.

just curious...
there are so many type of salts,
all can serve the functions (clean wound)?
or only selective type...

SOFTies' family got doctors and nurses! safe place ne!
and the one united thread is, we're all musicians!! yeah!! :supz: :smt034

isotonic. hypotonic. reminds me of bio. haha

so, its just basically tat we hafta use more or less of an isotonic salt solution so that it wont really harm our wounds, or/and the blood cells? stuffs like tat?

anw cheez i like your response. so detailed.
