And since when is Miley Cyrus a role model? She is an actress and a singer, not some angelic idol whose every action is to be replicated by an uncountable number of kids. Let the girl do what she wants.

i still dont get why when one refers to asian, he/she refers to the chinese(or taiwanese or japs etc) and not indians or malays etc

I didn't think that a country made up of people who, on a daily basis, stereotype 'Banglas' and Filipino/Indonesia maids and regularly make fun or sneer at these otherwise human beings who are just like them, would make a big hoo ha of something as stupid, childish and harmless as what Miley Cyrus did.

most of the people had their eyes squinted .
even the guy on the extreme left had his eyes pulled back too .
and look who we blame first !
not that im defending her or what , but the chinese guy sure looked like he was exaggerating the size of his eyes .
only thing i can infer from this is that they were indeed making a fun joke about squinty eyes . nothing personal or whatever you know .
at least thats my 20 yen worth

How do you know they are ignorant of that fact? You are making sweeping statements about the intelligence of people from a particular country based on assumptions. It comes across as hypocritical with in the context of this discussion

Widdly, I won't talk so much if I didn't know a thing or two about this.
Half my family live in Canada and North America. I go up there once every one or two years. My Sister is studying there too and intends to live on there. I have American friends, and have lived there on a normal life kind of basis, not the holiday kind. I never said all of them are stupid, I never said all don't know about India being located in Asia. But the fact is that ALOT more often than not, your average Americans does not see and refer to Indians as Asians.

Every country/race is the same, we just need to learn to be humble and respect others for what they are. If we just belittle or look down on others, we will have no peace.

I think what our dear Timmy here is saying is that the average Yankee Doodle refers to Asians as simply slit-eyed, yellow-skinned and talks funny. Another type of Asian will be those from Thailand kind. Cos Thailand is a very popular holiday destination for Americans.
Indians are simply just Indians, as in the curry making kind.
You see, all these simplified stereotypes of certain kinds of people are simply just that - simple classification and categorization by people of generally simple minds.
We all can see, on a daily basis, that not everybody is intellectually gifted, or at least clever enough.
But everybody's smart in their own ways.

Well Historically, US law says that Asian Indians are Caucasians. So you can see how some of them might get confused.

Ask some Americans how many states there are, or where certain states are, and they might give you a blank or embarrassed look. Worse if you ask them to point out where Singapore is actually on an unlabeled map.
Ask me where Jalan Teng Tong also I wouldn't even be able to guess. I can only think "Ting tong person. Ask me funny funny roads.".
