Hi, can anyone enlighten me regarding this. What are the difference between 'made in japan' guitars, 'made in mexico', 'made in china', 'made in korea' etc. Are there a great difference in the workmanship and how deep does it affect the sound of the guitar. It would really help me a lot.

It's mainly the consistency la. Compare similiar models, one made in china, one made in japan, the japan one will be more ex, but you get what you pay for, whereas the china one, well you lucky you get a good one but chances are it won't be perfectly made.

suspend_thought:MIC stuff hardly can find good ones lei..

hmm i would rather get a MIM than MIJ..quality seems better..

i see, so in most cases, japan guitars are greater compared to the others?

Not necessary. You get what you pay for. I've seen good guitars from China and terrible ones from Japan. It applies vice versa.

yes another one of these threads. We just love em. keep em coming.

generally its the QC, say in a lot of 100 the jap ones wld prolly have less lemons than say the china ones.

but china production is improving, can find some very good guitars for a decent price it seems. and generally the thigns like the electrics and hardware tend to be cheaper on a china one than a japan one. it all equates in the price, generally speaking you get what you pay for.

Here we go again. Doing a search would have solved all your questions.

err... i think that is what forum is for. interactive. can't find it in the first page, open a new topic. the world change, opinion change, almost everything change. what we have in the database may not apply today. if everything search, then why join a forum? just google will do. :)

in my choice:

1st - MIJ
2nd - MIM
3rd - MIK
4th - MIC

But MIK stuff are always improving, i think in a couple of years, it will be better than MIM.

No one wants to repeat the same thing over and over again. It would be better if the forum would "grow" and mature, but that's going to be difficult.

Basically that's the idea - google/search first, then if you can't find, then ask.

Heh here we go again.

Then what do you define as a good "made in Singapore" player?

Shred? Blues? Metal?

You need to possess such traits to, for example, get a MIJ/MIA guitar?

nah- wasn't going to take this discussion that way.

sometimes the player is the factor. if we can be more transparent with the brand name, get something that really complements our playing then there'll be less headache in trying to determine what to get.

yes, there is a need to be wary with QC & the likes, but sometimes our band name/ country of origin snobbery just gets in our way.

simple answer to all la , just go try it out and see if u like it.. but its true also, u do get pretty dodgy stuff from thos MIC ones, but somethimes u get quality equaling the MIJ ones too.. best to try out and trust ur ears...

Aiyah.. All these MIJ, MIK, MIA is all up to personal preference. If you feel better with a MIJ, then go ahead but if a MIC axe doesn't bother you, i'll say power to you. For example, why get a gibson LP when burny/orville LP are almost just as good? Some say, the sound is more natural. Some say there's more resale value. Some say, the feel of the neck is better. Some say... There're so many different opinions. It's up to YOU and of course the depth of your pocket.

Personally, I prefer to for MIJ or US stuff. Why? I feel better with them. :)

Yeap true. Based on experience I'm pretty alright with MIJ products. Nicely set-up everytime I get a MIJ guitar.

Ibanez-es, Fenders etc.

Recently I got a MIM strat, not really happy with the fret leveling but the feel is nice, and the sound is pretty cool so I bought it.

You never know man, sometimes you may get this really well set up MIC,MIK guitar and don't just because it is MIK/MIC and you're afraid of being laughed at or something. Just get it and show people what you can do with it. Still, a lot may disagree with me but 80% of the sound coming out from the amp, IMO, is from your fingers.

Cheers!

Might be better to drop it to 50%. Otherwise, lets all grab samicks and forget about "better" gear since our fingers do it all.

Anyway, I wouldn't be concerned with setup as compared to the actual fit & finish. Most importantly though, does the guitar have mojo? Does it speak to you when you play it? Does it come alive in your hands? If so, then good for you, grab it.
