Metallica "Death Magnetic" Reviews Pls...

This album is over hyped.
First of all, I dont like Kirk Hammett's over usage of wah-wah and I miss the beautiful solos he has done in the past, such as in Fade to Black and Master of puppets.
It seems the songs are just "over arranged" but lacking in catchy riffs.
The good thing about the record is that it is much better the St Anger record in many ways. The
tight speed metal that Metallica was known for, is back in this record. Lars is still one of the best drummers in metal.

Overall, there is only 1 track that I enjoyed in this album (after 50X more/less of listening) is
"The day that never comes", excellent intro and vocals, but I dont dig the line "love is a 4 letter word" (james, what are you thinking?!!)

As I've said, this album is over-hyped. The only album that was released this year that I enjoyed is by Candlebox. Buy this record instead you wont be disappointed.

i know my comment is long overdue.. but yeah i hate the way kirks does his solos.. and the whole sound of dm is so noisy that i bloody hurt my ears evertime i hear it on earphones. i eventually downloaded softer versions of the songs at youtube, from Guitar Hero. splendid sound. other than that, i personally believe that metallica is trying too hard on producing another AJFA/BA. but wat the heck, we got something much² better than the shitty st.anger.

1 thing though. Does anyone hear the clipping in the recording? Lar's snare and cymbals... Especially bad in "My Apocalypse". well, not my cuppa tea. just my personal opinion/preference.

Yeah quite a few fans complained about this online. The reason is apparently it was mastered to sound very loud, you can read about it at http://mastering-media.blogspot.com/2008/09/metallica-death-magnetic-clipping.html . They also mentioned that the version of Death Magnetic from Guitar Hero actually sounds better. I don't know myself, I am not really a audiophile.

I think there is even a petition out to ask Metallica to re-release the album.

Regarding the album, I actually really like it from the last 4 or 5 listens. Except for Unforgiven III.

lemme see....i got kill em all, ride the lightning and master of puppets albums....i recently deleted death magnetic from my IPOD

Yah, regarding Unforgiven 3, it really doesn't sound epic. if it was to be from another band, it wouldn't at all popular or known. its just a continuation of the epic journey of unforgivens. but it really doesn't click. i hadn't notice the clipping sound.

sound quality sucks big time. makes listening to the album properly a chore. i get ear fatique after only 2 or 3 songs. then listening is unbearable from then on.

the guitar hero III rip makes the album an easier listen though. much better sound quality, lesser compression.

I dare say the guitar fills would sound better played through my 10 watt peavey backstage amp... and recorded by my handphone. Sheesh i should be a music producer

went to sembawang music store one day...saw:
- metallica - death magnetic
- slipknot - all hope is gone
- trivium - shogun

easy choice...shogun...
i listened to some of the songs for each album on youtube...trivium's album was the yummiest! didn't even finish one whole song for death magnetic...coz as soon as i heard "wah" effect, i closed the youtube...haha...

anyway...best album i bought for this year -> extreme - saudades de rock!

i became a pirate and downloaded the remastered Death Magnetic.

no choice, my ear was burning from the freaking Snare and distortion.

Listened to them since 83.You will understnd why they change over the years.St Anger was a brave attempt.Anyway, MetallicA stood the test of time musically and socially. They are still the kings.
