Metal Zone Tri-Gain Mod

I recently bought this modded MT-2 from a Softie. I don't know which tri-gain mod it is (neither does he), but that's besides the point

What I encounter is that there is a significant level drop in when I flicked the gain switch to one of the three modes (it becomes soft). The level seems fine for the other 2 gain modes.

Is anyone familiar with which mod this is? If you are, is the level drop normal?

i had just mod my 2nd hand metal zone too....
But have not had the chance to really use it too..

I believe it's either the Monte Allum or the CMAT (the latter gotten the parts from Monte, I believe). I am not to sure if it's the regular tri-gain mod or the tri-gain plus. I'm thinking it is probably more the regular tri-gain.

Let me know if you experienced any drop in the level when you try it

Could it because of the germainium transistor in there? Does the mod have a germanium transistor anyway? Im not sure. I think germanium transistors tend to make the vol drop.....

Feedback: Quite honestly, I don't quite think that the Metal Zone is my type of pedal, even with the mod. The reason I am asking is cos I am planning to sell. And I don't want to sell a spoilt pedal to a Softie.

Leecs: Yup, there's a germanium in it

it should be a germanium diode or a bad germanium transistor wired as a diode.
the mod should be at the clipping section and yes germanium diodes clips much faster compared to silicon ones.

If it is DAMN loud, probably its some LED(light emitting DIODES) used as clippers. Those clips at very high voltage when compared to germaniums.

Nope, it's not damn loud. And another quick check at the website shows germanium diode.

If the mt-2 tri-gain mod has anything similar to the ds-1 tri-gain mod, then i suspect the softest mode of the three is the mode where none of the additional diodes are engaged and the sound is most similar to a stock mt-2. Should be when the switch is in the middle position.. Is it?
