Lovepedal Superlead

Did a run with my LP through a HT-5 and damn it sound huge! Major kickass full stack tone in a box! The mid boost is unreal and the bass response is tight. High notes is thick and clear and articulate. The gain is brutal and nasty. I was expecting to be of lesser gain but boy was I wrong. Even on high gain the pedal is so clear and responsive to pick attack. I tested this on a Strat through a Egnater combo at Manhattan GC and immediately fell in love with it. Got to bring home and was blown away with the tone using my LP. This just ended my search for the plexi tone.

The GC staff told me that they just got this in and have no idea what it is. I search online with no results, even on Lovepedal's website and no one on TGP knew anything about it. So I guess its very new. I'm probably one of the first few that bought it. I'm sure I'm the first in sg to test it.

There's a note included in the box. Here's what Sean Michael have to say:

Lovepedal Superlead

Ever wish you could capture the massive, beefy tone of a classic full-stack amp and carry it in your gig bag? Lovepedal's Sean Michael knows exactly what you want - and he's found a way of getting it for you.

Plug into his new Superlead pedal, crank up your guitar and close your eyes. You'' hear the classic Brit amp tone that you've been looking for. It's a sound that completely revolutionized electric guitar, defining some of the greatest moments in rock n roll form Monterey to Woodstock. And if you've ever fallen in love with that tone, here's your chance to own it in a compact stompbox.

Like all Lovepedal products, the Superlead is simple, durable and totally user-friendly. It has three knobs - Drive, Level and Tone - and a two-position Mid switch that allows you to open up the circuit and get a more expansive sound. Sean likes to keep the switch "open" for live shows, letting the tone breathe more. He prefers to use the mid switch in "closed" mode for recording sessions to obtain a tight, focused tone that sits perfectly in the mix.

Inside its rugged chassis, the Superlead directs a non-inverting pre amp signal into an inverted amp design with a vintage plexi tone stack. The result? Major league sonics in a pedal-sized package. As Sean explains it, "I have no use for huge amps because they're bulky and a lovelovelovelovelove to lug around. So I made this pedal to solve the problem. Since I play a small combo amp, I needed a very thick tone going into the amp. I wanted to get a ton of sustain with the ability to hear intricate chords under heavy situation."

Sean set out to design a pedal capable of capturing that revolutionary sound with just the right balance of articulation, responsiveness and brute power. He found it - and he's offering it to fellow guitarists.

Hope you guys like it.

Nice buy man, although i dont know what it is but by the looks and name..i just have the impression it sounds killer haha.

saw the does anyone know about the lovepedal superlead thread on TGP.. seems like only a couple of people on TGP have it only.

EDIT: the superlead somehow reminds me of the redhead, are they similar in any way?

Latest update: It's a Guitar Center Exclusive and they are not supposed to sell it until October!! I think GC sold it to me by mistake!

Haha... guess I'm damn lucky to nail it before they found out.

The best thing about the Superlead is the "Mid switch". It's very very apparent between the closed and open position. When open, it produce a great plexi "honk". When closed, it's thicker and darker. Maybe it behaves like the dual inputs on a vintage plexi. I don't think there is as much gain on tab as the redhead and tonal wise is more towards classic rock. But then again, the gain is sufficient to play 80s rock. There's nothing official from Lovepedal so its just my guess. Solely on the namesake I suppose it's modeled to sound like a vintage Marshall 1959SLP 100-Watt Super Lead Plexi Head.

Woah dude that pedal has Marshall written all over it. How much did it set you back? How much will it set me back if i wanted to take it of ya? Hahahahahaha. Post some sound clips up dude. Wanna see how thick the tone gets.

subversion: Yes. Plexi tone. The closest I played before was a early 70s JMP and this thing sound pretty darn close.

Jumpin Jellybean: I don't know how it compares to Purple Plexi cos I don't own one. Here's the my impressions compared to drives I've owned.
Vs OCD - It has better bass definition and tighter response. Not as mushy when gain on full. Higher gain on tab too.

Vs Pinnacle - Sounds quite similar in some ways but again this thing got better bass definition. My only gripe on the Pinnacle is the bass is quite weak and thin no matter how you tweak. The tone from the superlead is much fuller and not "hollow" as the Pinnacle.

Vs 7th: I just sold it. Haha. Not that the 7th is bad. I think it's really good for what it does but I'm always afraid to tweak the knobs cos it's quite a challenge to get the sound I want. The superlead just suits me better cos I'm into the classic and modded plexi tone like Led Zep, GnR etc. I can dial in those tones easily and I think it's more focused in attack. It possessed almost the same "openness" as the 7th but has slightly more compressed breakup which I again prefer.

loldude333: It's no secret. I paid US$129 for it. But apparently it was a mistake for GC to sell it to me in the first place. So I'm not sure if it's the actual release price. If it is.. just go grab it. Totally worth it! In fact it's cheap compared to similar pedals in the market.

dudelove: I think it's not really comparable with the 7th in many ways. The 7th wasn't meant to be a Marshall box. It's a tone shaping device. It's great for what it does. The superlead is really a simple and great marshall clone that to me sounds more plexi than those I've tried.

I'm always looking for the best marshall box cos I don't think I really ever want to own a real plexi cos even if I do I will not ever get to push the 100W monster enough to get a good tone out of it. For now, the superlead does it for me.

BTW, these are my impressions on the pedal and by no means be the end of all things. So don't take my words for it. Go try one and decide for yourself when they hit the market in October. :)

Oh well.. The 7th does a great plexi when I tried it by the way. That's why I asked. Surprised you said the 7th doesn't do a Marshall for you..

You haven't even heard it in action and you only read a review by one person.. I like the way you make your decisions.

You could call me reckless... I'm a sucka for drive pedals.
Anyway, no harm to try? I get most of my drives secondhand and flip 'em for roughly the same price during resale, so i don't waste that much money while still being able to experiment with drives. Course, the drives that i buy, mostly can't be found in Singapore, and i also quite paiseh to test test then don't buy, it's like wasting the seller's time.
I suppose i can afford myself a treat once in awhile. :p

hehe, its very easy to earn money from geetarers.

I mean, for a gadget that do with sound, but yet, no audio files that we can use to roughly gauge upon our preference, still able to inspire possible sales.

Not about to target anyone, but just kinda amused at how the online forums and geetarers in general among forums, havent really changed, be it 2001 or 2010

*We Want Soundclips!*

Actually no. Just less than 80% of us do. Me and Dudelove most definitely would be happy to hear what it sounds like.
Hmm on top of that yes im actually quite surprised you sold the 7th because you couldnt obtain marshally tones from it?
I remember playing thru several 7ths (not that i own one) and it could achieve marshall tones, and yes it 100% CAN achieve a sweet sounding plexi if tweaked correctly.

( Have to agree with you on that, the tweaking on the 7th can produce a variety of tones but it appears to be troublesome to tweak at times. )

I'm in the midst of getting an Officially Licensed Circuits (OLC) Thor pedal built for me. which circuit is supposed to be directly modelled based on the Super Lead Plexi, wonder how this will compare.

Hope you like ur new ltd ed. pedal dude, i would be one proud owner if i were you.

There have been many pedals designed to produce the plexi sound, the Menatone KOTB, the Hao Rust Driver, the OLC Circuits Thor, the Lovepedal Purple Plexi, the GGG BSIAB II, etc etc. Yet my dream would be to play thru an original 70s plexi finally being able to hear the 'real deal'.

Upload some clips pls!
