I'v some questions.

1. Is the amp too much for a HDB room?
2. If the amp played at low volume, will it be able to project out its potential?

Still looking for an amp for my room. Hope the reviews bout the Marshall AVT series will be up soon.

Bro its a 100watter? I tell you. to get any good tube amp tone you must crank it. No spare for a 5watter also. Yup you can push up the pre-amp level for distortion but its cranking up the master volume (power tube section) that makes your sound fuller. IMO its too much for HDB. Some may disagree though.

Used to have a 5150 combo - vol less then 1 - it already rattle my whole house -
sold it -------- then.. too big for me ;

Maybe you can get those hot plate to crank the vol and not sounding too loud ...

on a personal note, i'd never let any wattage/ volume considerations get in the way of good tone acquisition... 8-)

however in light of your concern, the DSL/ TSL series need a good volume cranking to bring the Marshall drive to life; the reason i don't find it favourable. a good amp should appeal at any volume/ drive settings. fortunately, Marshall introduced the JVM/ VM which sound as immaculate low volume as they are cranked up.

The timing should also be consider. You cant expect to crank up the volume just after sunrise or in the wee hours. That asking for death invitation.Tube amps generally get much of their tone from saturating their power section. When the volume is too low, though, you just can't get that saturation. Im using an ADA pre-amp with Carvin tube power amp. It sucks when put on low volume. But lucky for me, im living on the ground floor......

there is this vol box where you crank the vol on the amp and control the vol thru the small box.i cant remember what its call tho.saw it off ebay btw.they provide different vol box for different manufacturers.

bro maybe a decent combo is enough.there is some much trouble in carrying around the half-stack.but still a combo can blast the whole HDB block.

attenuator that shud be... it goes between the amp and speaker, acting as dummy load so you can crank the tube amp to more controlled level before pissing the hell outta everyone

ah yes that one.the attenuator should help in cranking the tubes full potential at lower volumes.
