quite simple actually. Rooney is one player who would work his socks off for the team. He will defend, he will track back. He'll chase and chase and chase till he wins the ball back. Ronny, on the other hand, let's just say he's not the best when it comes to the defensive side of his game. He doesn't try to get the ball back when he loses it because he's always too busy appealing for a freekick or complaining/whining to the ref or wallowing in self-pity.

besides, man utd were on the defensive. ronny, on his day, with the ball at his feet can be pretty terrorising. perhaps fergie was hoping to use that to his advantage. barca doesnt have the quickest of defences. with rooney playing deeper, maybe fergie thinking that rooney's vision would come into good use during a counter-attack.

i was quite disappointed with the formation. i would have preferred rooney playing as a lone striker with ronaldo supporting him instead. and i would've very much preferred anderson to scholes. but i guess fergie opted for experience over exuberance.

yeah man, what was that post about? haha.

other than the fact that ronny missed a penalty, i suppose im rather relieved that we didn't concede an away goal at the same time. im confident that the game at old trafford will be magnificent!

Only the home team can concede an "away goal". Considering that we were playing away, we couldn't have possibly conceded an "away goal".

Ronaldo was played in the center because Barca's CBs are much slower compared to their wingbacks. It was a mismatch that we wanted to exploit and we did a decently good job of it considering that we should have gotten at least one penalty from those exploits.

Ronaldo clearly was much faster than Marquez.

But instead of putting Rooney on the wings, I thought Rooney would have done better partnering Ronaldo in the center.

And Anderson would have been a great introduction in the second half. He would have sparked some creativity, confidence and made some timely tackles against the rampant Barca midfield.

Not the best match to watch in terms of goals and highlights but it was a great match to watch from a tactical POV. Well, either that or I'm putting too much into thought. :-D

Ronaldo happy to keep penalty responsibility

Cristiano Ronaldo insists he will have no qualms about taking another penalty for Manchester United despite his spot-kick misery against Barcelona.

Ronaldo hit a post with his penalty early in United's goalless Champions League draw in the Nou Camp on Wednesday, but the Portugal winger has no intention of hiding from the responsibility should his team be given another.

“Next time I get a penalty, I will try and put things right. I am not scared,” he said.

“I am always confident. I have 38 goals this season. It is not a problem if I miss one or two. I try to do my best in every game.

“Since I have been in Manchester I have scored 15 or 16 penalties, I think, and missed two.

“No-one has said anything to me because I always try to score, to play well.”

Ronaldo, who won the penalty when his header was handled by Gabriel Milito, is convinced he should have had a second after being fouled by Rafael Marquez and he was unhappy with referee Massimo Busacca's display.

“While you have to respect the decision of the referee, he did not make the best decisions,” Ronaldo said. “Too many decisions went to Barcelona, he gave us nothing.”

United were unable to find much attacking rhythm against Barca and now must win at Old Trafford in the second leg next Tuesday as a score draw would eliminate them on away goals.

Ronaldo is convinced the Spanish club will see a much more aggressive United in the return.

“It wasn't the best game in Barcelona but in Manchester we will try to win,” he said. “I'm sure the return game will be totally different.

“Barcelona won't keep the ball like they did in this match and we'll create more chances.

“It will be a different game and I'm sure we're going to play better. We are at home, we will have 75,000 people behind us. We will try to play good football and try to win.”

Owen Hargreaves filled in impressively at right-back on Wednesday and the England midfielder agrees that United will rise to the occasion.

“We are optimistic as we will play a lot differently than we did at the Nou Camp,” Hargreaves said. “We will attack Barcelona and see how they deal with it.

“They had a lot of possession but did not really penetrate us. We had a strategy and played really well.”

My View - To all who criticise him for missing the penalty, give him a break you all, he have done alot for the club

you're actually right lah.. very tactical both teams, cancelled each other. but barca really had a host of chances, all wasted.

now to seal the title at chelsea.(hopefully)

latest word is that vidic can play against chelsea

media predicted a stale-mate draw for Chelsea-Man Utd match. both teams have Euro commitments to consider, so this scoreline might materialize after all.

if Man Utd wins today:

Chelsea is more motivated to gain 3 points today because they know they can simply maintain the draw for Euro later next week. we will be seeing a team giving their all at the home ground.

Man Utd has a make or break situation today as well as their Euro fixture. they might end up empty handed this season if they don't maintain a high work rate.

Wah the Arseanal fans are horrible people. You guys should be more concerned about fighting for second place but then again your season is over.

Chelski will be resting players today. Their main aim is the reach Moscow, same same like Hitler! The roubles wants the CL more than the EPL. BUt that's besides the point, just as we destroyed Arseanal's unbeated record, we will do likewise at Chelski today.

C"mon United!

2-0
Ronaldo & Carrick

hahaha.

I predict. 2-1 lah. i think they'll break our defence. ONCE.

but we'll outscore em and show em whos boss. :D
