hi just wondering wad kind of upgrade would you give to a smash s1 to make it sound as "fenderish" as possible

Change all the hardware/ electronics to stock fender parts? A good amp goes a long way if you want that classic strat sound too.

The Smash S1 doesn't have an alder body, right? If I recall correctly, it is basswood. Which is a warmer, more neutral sounding wood. Hence it'll sound very different from a traditional Fender strat which is made of alder, hence having a bright and snappy sound.

You could try getting a different amp, or switching the pickups to Fender pickups, but I'd say don't expect to sound very close to a traditional Fender. Still - a good sound is a good sound. If you like what you're hearing, regardless of whether it is "Fender-ish", that's a good thing already. :)

Many ways and variables. Depending what fenderish sounds you want.
Have Mexican, Jap, American, CS pups.
Bridge Mexican 6 screw vs American 2 pt?
Pots CTS vs RS vs other whatnot brands?

EugeneSmasher gives one of the best advice in this thread i guess.. well, if you really wan fender tone.. get a FENDER! after all the electronic changes and stuff.. you will end up a price of MIM Fender i guess.. but still.. EMG ACTIVE ARE THE BEST FENDER PICKUP I PLAYED XD!

Diff ppl have diff take on tone. Let's not 4get that. Personally I find suhr pickups the most orgasmic for cleans on a strat but it can't do high gain so I have my area 58 for that. Sounds pretty fender-ish if u ask me but which stock fender pup player utilizes those pup for high gain stuff?? So can't compare. I reaised I just wrote a lot of crap...

Hmm regarding Fender vs Suhr pickup tone, I would say Fenders have that traditional bell-tone while Suhrs just sound really modern clean type of sound. let's not forget that Suhr has that BBSSC thing that reduces hum. In some mysterious way, I felt that the hum from Fender pickups actually attribute to it's character.

High gain stuff for Fender is possible with CS 69s but of course, the hum gets excessive if the gain is too high. Noiseless pickups might not have the hum but damn the tone is lacking some balls. By the way, I feel Suhr pickups are not meant for the high gain stuff too.

My opinion though :s .

haha yea i agree...humless single coils sometimes lack the character. but it all comes down to what u need for ur style. for me i like to dime the gain so humless single coils will sting my ears when i stop playing...haha
