local bands

hehe, we talk so much bout local music, but yet when i start a thread on recent local albums purchase/legal downloads. The response so poor.

We are so over rated... this thread, just like the other local geetarers over/under rated thread, is a joke, we are making fool out of ourselves, in open forum, which can be assessed by anyone, anywhere, as long as theres internet connection.

Softies, haizzz, talk so much, but no substance one, not all, but some....

I totally agree! Anyway I dont see over rated local bands as something bad, because afterall they still help to gain more exposure for the local scene. Personally in my opinion, bands that get to play overseas play a very CRITICAL role in drawing attention since the impression of our scene created by the outsiders is highly dependent on the performance of the band.

Having said that, BRING B-QUARTET OUT OF OUR SHORES FOR GLOBAL DOMINANCE.

i think overrated-ness and underrated-ness has been happily used out of context. Saying "this band is overrated" is just a more polite way and politically correct way of saying "this band sucks!"

I think the original intention of the TS is to diss a band and get away with it.

no, i just didn't get all the attention because their music its not that great, like I said, i've seen/heard bands which are far greater, like B quartet and other underground acts like Stoned Revivals, Like A Band etc etc. this is not a "you suck" thread. and yeah there are a few bands i am jealous off, but I can't say who, and I cannot say who, for me judging plain sunset is completely an un-biased opinion, and since they are a big band, they probably wouldn't care.

I wasn't big on Plainsunset when I first heard their album, which a friend lent to me. I thought the music was too simplistic and straightforward. They won me over, however, when I caught them live. I realised then that the songs were simple because they were meant to be easy to sing along to. They have a very genuine disposition and spirit, and they're really good people- and it shows through in their live shows. I respect that. They appeal to the everyman, and they completely deserve their following.

When you say "I don't get all the attention because the music is not that great", are you suggesting that as a general rule, the best music gets the most attention? I admire your faith in the masses, but I personally think it's rather misplaced.

Over-rated/under-rated... who cares?

Bands will care if...

a) You buy their CDs or EPs

b) You buy their merchandise

c) You buy tickets to watch their shows

What's the point of talking about over-, under-, well rated bands if you can't even support them with your money?

Under-rated = Bands that stay true to their music no matter what their genre might be...
