Paul actually brought his band to the rehearsals that day, they sounded good enough to go on live TV in my opinion.
But his minder insisted on having a backing track played back along with the live band's mix, which ended up sounding really out of sync. Honestly, if his minder really considered his live band and wanted a backing music (i.e. synths or backing vox) to layer or compliment their playing, that's fine. But it was like an entire fully mixed broadcast track that the live band had to follow to. Which ANYONE who knows music will know it's just not the way to do it.
In the end, the minder decided to go with the backing track, bye bye live band, and there we have it, taaa daaahhh... another fantastic Singapore Idol performance.
My heart goes out to Paul who had put in so much effort to get the band together, and also to the band members who took time off to do this, but in the end, went home with nothing.
