does the line 6 bass do what it claims to be able to do? get all the different tones in one guitar. or is there still a gap in terms of sound quality between the variax and the original guitars?

you should go and try it out at city music. what it can't do is to do what you can't do.

it works. it really works.

the only gripe about it is that to me, it doesnt have 'character'. i wouldnt bring it to gigs.. unless its some pub thing where i might need various sounds.

tried it once .. feel in love with the jaco sound that it has on one of it's presets ... amazing stuff ... like what Z3r0_G said, i agree that it has no character .. something i wouldn't want to play live either .. but if it's in the studio i really don't mind using it to record and stuff ... it's a great bass .. but for what it can do .. despite the advantages .. i'd stick with a wooden magnetic bass ..=) ..

but if yall just wanna hear how it sounds live ah... can go tampines mrt... facing tampines mall... the blind uncle just traded in his pacifica for a elec guitar(variax) with a crate amp... plays there everyday...

lol yea i noticed that man. i go there often and saw the pacifica become a variax one day  i dun hear a big diff tho :?

coz he plays clean? i heard him play a few times long ago..

hear him play must donate to support mah.
My fren got the variax bass. Tried it before. 24 sound but basically use 4-5 sound. The P bass and Stingray sound quite nice. Since it is mainly the technology so the tone wood dun matter.
Hmm personally i prefer a real wood bass. But really up to individual. The cool thing is u can change to watever sound suitable for ur genre.

it means..the limitation of the guitar is the limitation of your skills.

juz like if u dunno tapping..u cant do tapping on the guitar.

hope u get the idea.

All the variax guitars sound quite nice on SOME of the models..not all.

Main problem I have with them is they are built like Korean guitars...oh wait, they ARE Korean guitars? Wow, thats a lot of money for a Korean!!

My summation: $3000 sounds on a $300 guitar....if ya know what I mean...

And they just dont look 'Rock n Roll' to me.....

i'd think it's a piece of studio magic.. so yeah, i'd love to go into the digital direction if i was going into producing instead of spending so much more on top analog gear. we're not working musicians y'know.. mad props to Line6

i tried the line6 4 string version few months back, imho line6 is pushing the electronics side of bass construction pretty hard.. with the variaxes, amps, pods etc. good company to keep an eye on if you're not a hardcore analog guy.

i didnt like the variax bass because i didn't like the feel of the glossy neck, quite thick and rounded too. wasn't very comfortable with it, but sound wise it was pretty good :) one of our church musos pickup by the guitar version and uses it when he covers both acoustic and electric in a set.

yea got the idea kid_slacker. thanks. hmm so i guess itd make a good practice guitar but not a very pretty gigging one... cool... thanks everyone
