line 6 toneport ux2.is it good?

hi guys need your help in answering some question about the line 6 toneport ux2
ive been thinking about buying it but i got 1 question.is it user friendly?as in easy to use for recording noobs like me?
do i need anything else to record with other than the toneport only?or can i record a whole song with vocals guitar and bass with just the toneport?
1 more thing how much does it cost at city music?

hi dude. word of advice: if you get the UX2, make sure your PC has compatible soundcard so you wouldnt compromise your recording.

i own a UX2, got it as a birthday present a few mths back. its rather user friendly but the software that it comes along with, Live 4 needs practise and getting used to. to be honest i've yet to master its usage yet but i know for sure that the UX2 is the one of the best recording devices available on the market for its price range. its $295 if i recall correctly.

provided you're able to get the best out of it, you wont regret getting it. comes with its on onboard soundcard too but just make sure everything else is compatible. and yes you may record vocals and bass, and the mic slot comes with a +48V phantom power to boost that mic. the gearbox and line 6 monkey softwares are rather useful for onboard sound processing if you're lazy to hook up your rig.

antimarx, why do you still need a soundcard when you are using the UX2 for recording?

im not sure if the UX2's hardware actually routes around your PC's soundcard, but according to a friend of mine (he worked at City Music), it does not. and he gave me the same advice about having your PC's soundcard being a compatible one. so i'll take his word for it since he's the experienced one anyway.

maybe you could enlighten me up on this one if do you know of anything more? thanks!

hmm thanks guys for the reply really useful.do i need a drum machine to insert the drums bits?
and can a keyboard be plugged into the toneport for recording also?

My other guitarist from the band just brought his UX2 over and we used it to record some stuff.

You have to plug it into the USB drive and change the audio settings from your old soundcard to this. You have to connect your speakers to the UX2 to listen to the playback. It bypasses the soundcard and acts like a sound card!
