learning tapping

I'm not a pro, but I can direct you to the pros: many people learn tapping by copping Van Halen's Eruption, which is pretty much 'core curriculum' for the rock guitarist who wants to start fretting with the right hand. Suggest you pick up the VH1 album.

Like any technique, getting good at doing something fast is all about first getting good at doing it slow. You need a metronome prefereably and must first be able to do your tapping lick at a slow speed with no mistakes, maybe 10 times in a row. Then increase the tempo and do it again. People like John Petrucci/Zakk Wylde swear by this method - once you can do it at the faster speed, go down again to the previous speed and consolidate your foundation. Then go up a notch until you're blazing. It takes, discipline and patience, but it's really the only way - no shortcut.

clarity and precision before speed.

keep this in mind when you practice.

Don't "cheat" your way through with distortion of "messy" tapping where you hit many many strings and try to cover it up.

Start with the outside strings, before working you way inwards.

Oh yeah, the metrome is a great help. Start slow and go faster later, AFTER clarity and precision has been reached.

Well, enjoy!
