Learn Sequencing

Ok, I have read through the software list and had zoomed down on Cakewalk Sonar.

Basically, I want to learning about how to sequence music (not so much about recording though). Previously, what I did was note-for-note inputting for multiple tracks into notation software like Sibelius and Noteworthy Composer etc and this was REAL tedious! I have also tried software like Band In A Box. Although it was easy to use and many of the things were automated but it was kind of limiting to what I really want.

So I think Sonar or Cubase might be the answer for me. Can anyone share some resources on how I can learn about music sequencing with Sonar for free? Searched the internet but most of them were paid courses. Book recommendations are welcome too.

Thanks!

Learning which buttons to press on the software is easy - you can read that up on the manual when you get you software (Sonar or whatever). If you have been using Sibelius, then migrating to proper sequencing should be easy for you. You just don't need to input note by note - just need to play them on the keyboard.

However, sequencing is more an art than a science. Pushing buttons and playing keyboard is simple. Two people sequencing the exact same piece with the same notes and instruments will sound totally different. If you do a search in this forum, you'll find some very old threads where we discuss tips and tricks on sequencing various instruments.
