Lawsuit Guitars

Hi,

Need some advice. Saw some classified ads here that is selling some LP copies. Are they any good? brands like Aspen, Epiphone, Greco, Orville, Burny?

Thanks in advance.

Cheers

some lawsuit copies are good. some are bad.

epiphone isn't a lawsuit copy maker.

orville was, in short, gibson japan.

brands like tokai, greco, aspen, burny/fernandes are lawsuit copy makers since their guitars look so much like the originals.

to know, just try before you buy. there isn't really much to whether a guitar is good or not if you don't try.

of course, you can also google more for info.

imo greco and burny lps are matchable mosts gibson lps...no offence gibson owners just my opinion:)

i think you meant to ask whether LP copies are any good, yes? as oppossed to asking whether lawsuit guitars are any good. as gordonzz had pointed out, there's no lawsuit when it comes to Epiphone.

if you are keen, my recommendation would be the Tokai barand: accurate looks, feel & tone...

Davis is the new authorised dealer for the Tokai brand name, however, the range on offer are 'tasters'... hopefully of more good things to come

Hi all!

You guys are really helpful. Thanks a bunch.

Ha. Pardon my ignorance about Epiphone being a lawsuit series... I gone and found more stuff. There are lots about Tokai, Greco, Burney and Orville but little on Aspen tho...

Apparantly, there are many out there singing praises about these lawsuits. But you guys tried it before? Any feedback?

The guy/gal (loneeurope?) got back to me about the prices and quoted:

Burny - $1400
Orville - $1300
Greco - $1000
I am not a fan of the Strat but it was quoted for $900. Mentioned that all price negotiable. Anyone with knowledge about these guitar prices?

Thanks! you guys rock! :)

For $900, i'd rather buy strat highway1 series. Listed $1150 at sweelee website.
It's real fender!

for $1,400 list, i'd get the Tokai Love Rock which lists for as much, feels very Gibson-esque (if you are into the LP tone & feel). if you don;t mind the korean version, then you'd pay only half the price...

$900 for which Fender model?

Ok. Will go down his place to try out the LP copies this weekend. Then I think I will go to the shops to try out the Tokai and the real stuff and compare - if I have the time. Hee hee.

Will update.

Hi subversion,

I missed your question. Sorry. It's not a fender. It's a Greco copy. $900 and negotiable. Don't know how much he will be willing to knock off tho...

Greco strat copy?????? I doubt there's something like that, at least for the current series. Check out http://www.kandashokai.co.jp/greco for the range of greco guitars. By the way, Greco is the brand name for Fujigen, the factory that makes all Japanese ibanez and Fender Japans.

Hi Ryuworks,

I am not sure, that is what he said in his ad (with picture). He also mailed me some photos of the Strat and it looks like the vintage Strat style. You know? The one with big head stock?

I am going to find out more this weekend and do some research on these copies. Really curious about these guitars because of what is said in some websites. If it is true, then this can actually save me at least $1000 compared to buying a real LP Standard...

We shall see... :)

If I am you I will get a Greco or Tokai LP type over a real Gibson anyday~ Don't believe in paying for brand names and non-existant quality difference

Hi all,

went to try out the Greco, Orville and Burny LP.

The Greco LP standard is so so, very nice finish tho. But I think still better than Epiphone.

But the Orville and Burny LP Custom is excellent man... I think it really can stand up to the real thing. The feel and the heaviness is very close or I even dare say exact. No wonder there are so much talk about it in the Net.

Seriously wondering why people would still spend that kind of money for the real thing. No offence to owners of real Gibs, maybe I'm just not that good in hearing the difference.

I tried the Tokai at Davies but it doesn't seem that impressive to me. Better than the Greco I tried at the guys house. But not better than the Orville and Burny. I think for Tokai it's those made in the late 70's and early 80's that are the worthy stuff. Then again, those at Davies are the LS85 series, which is the lower series of Tokai LP models. I think the LS 120 and above are the solid stuff. Hope they bring those in.

Does anyone knows which shop brings in Orvilles and Burny's?

to put a long story short, basically orville was gibson japan. (sorta. i'm not too sure about the details myself either.) orville is no longer existent if i'm not mistaken.

burny - u can try luthermusic? they used to bring Burny LPs last time. take note - if u're particular about country of manufacture - the LPs do come from different countries at different pricing. I've seen Burny Jap, Korea and China made LPs.

On another note: I think the seller's Orville is the most relatively well priced. Again, these guitars do not have a value attached to them; check ebay for rough guages.
