don't even know if i should post this after reading just a little here and there...
just thinking seriously about where i wanna go and stuff cause i don't want to make wrong decisions. so which school/schools is good etc. to get a music degree??? and actually do you have to go through diploma to go through degree courses??? i'm playing classical music by the way...

Don't forget Yong Siew Toh Conservatory of Music. But if you have the money and you really want to do this, you should go overseas, because you will broaden your mind.

overseas if you have the money. my friend went to peabody after his diploma. definitely much more exposure and opportunity to learn.

TS: if you don't then you could still consider yst. it's not easy to get in though cause everyone there's on scholarship but if you do get in and do well enough, you might even get sponsorred to continue your education at peabody during your 2nd year.

Many top regional studio and live session players from Singapore have a formal music education. It's not the best place to work as a musician but there's definitely work to be found if you're good enough and look for it.

Which is the reason why I'm keeping music solely as a hobby.....

Of course, we all want to be rockstars and drive big cars.

you can study whatever you want and then work as something else in the future. it doesnt really matter. everyone has already done everything anyway.

just go overseas if its within your means. you will learn much more both in and out of the classroom. if you dont go out of your comfort zone you will never learn or achieve anything. and as you become an adult you will find that there is no more comfort zone left. you just do what everyone else is doing and convince yourself that it's normal.

I agree. However, my goal is to earn as much as possible here as I don't want to be stuck in a mid-life crisis earning 3k a month when I'm in my mid-30s. Otherwise, like what art thou mentioned, packing up one's bags and becoming a FT in another country may be valid choice, realistically and euphemistically speaking.

Anyway lets not sidetrack from the thread already. Speaking of which - did you know NAFA actually offers a Royal College of Music Bachelors from London now? So its like the best of both worlds - overseas university education locally. I know of this cos one of my MDC buddies got into the programme. You'll need to pass through a round of auditions and interviews though. TS, this may interest you.
