Laptop DVD drive locked

I'm using an Acer laptop and have used up the DVD drive's region counter.

Now its unable to read and play any DVDs. From what I understand, its got to do with the drive's firmware. I have followed instructions from a website and created a bootdisk to flash the drive but was unsuccessful.

Has anybody experienced this and rectified it?

Cheers

did it flash at all? if so, and it was interrupted or didnt work. Chances are your drive is stuffed man.

Or did it tell you it cant do it BEFORE any flashing happened.

there are programs out there region free drives and stuff, that you run in windows.

Oh man. This doesn't sound good. I'm very careful about switching the region number too often. My DVD player software warns me each time when I have to change it - it says that once the number of tries expires the limit, there will be no way to rectify it even if I re-format my HD or remove my DVD drive.

Flashing the firmware sounds like a logical move. If that doesn't work, maybe you should contact Acer.
