Kirk Hammet shows How to Play MoP

Er.. Guys.. IF you have the chance, try to attend a metallica concert. That will do you some good and i think your opinions of kirk and gangt might change. I attended my one and only metallica gig almost 2 years ago and it was a unforgettable one. Kirk and James were tight as 70s Star Trek spandex i tell you. Although the tour was the St Anger (man.. i can't tell you what crap got into their brains in the studio when recording that thing) tour, they played mostly good ol' metallica stuff (all the way to Kill'em All). They're not the best/fanciest giutarists but they're definitely great musicians and peformers. That's why we listen to music, right?

I,m not a fanboy, but for some reason i dun understand the hatred thrown at Metallica. And Its worlwide :?
Kirk Hammett is an exceptional player.Look closely at the video,he plays the mop riffs all downstrokes..
He plays awesome and catchy solos past decades.
Whats more important is the feel and stlye of the player.Man,most guitarists nowadays plays alot like YJM,vai, satch..huh...Remember kirk once voted the best HeavyMetal guitarist early 90's??
Yes Kirk is A LEGEND and made his way to rock and roll hall of fame so is his guitar. nuff said....

Maybe someday,we shld ask Satch "What do u think of Kirk?" :P

Anything short of Malmy "play fender!" steem, expect a politically correct response. Heh.

On a side note... just an observation, I've noticed lots of guitarists going on about how fast MoP is and how Metallica is only "downstrokes and nothing else". From the vid, MoP isn't... killer, I mean Battery is killer, but MoP is pretty normal. From a palm muted, all downstrokes view.
However, if Kirk played battery with all downstrokes, thats something.
Just an observation.

For me I think to be able to come up with such riffs is good enough. Not the manner of technique or complexity.

Take the riffs from Led Zep and the old 70's era, simple, but creative.Selling millions, inspiring millions.

Music to me is an expression, not a competition
Its a craft of artistic expression that should not be broken down into "structures of theories and such"

A creative expression is personal to his/her own.Not answerable to anyone else.

...who are we to judge?

my 2 cents.

Yeah , we are all entitled to our own opinions.Understand that.

My rationale is that we should by now know that the market in this industry is based not on an absolute product , unlike other industries.

Music can not be defined by formulaes. It should be open and non-idealistic.Or else we(Industry promoters) could create a frankenstein of Satch,Vai,Halen,Slash,(whoever rocks your boat) with all the techniques in the known universe into a singular artist to quench the market's desire.

Then again, i feel that as musicians, the subjectivity in my case is different in the sense that I do not really regard myself as a market watcher/critique, but more of as a person who appreciates this market we call the music industry.

3 cents

This is an interesting quote... thats what most of us strive to do with ourselves.

Its also interesting how... laid-back? understanding? you are towards music in general. Like one of my earlier posts, I'm very bias-ed and judgemental against some players/music due to the way the guitar is "mis-handled". Your approach is different (more matured) from the exclaimations (on other threads/sites/forums/etc) against differing views.

In anycase, I hope you are not misreading my previous previous post. I was merely pointing out the "myth" of Metallica plays everything with downstrokes only. :P Its quite tramatic watching a 15-yr old struggle to play power metal triplets all with downstrokes only just because "metallica did it".

Yeah shredcow, I totally understand your intent so far.

No offense to ya, but my comments are for the guitarists similiar to the ones I've met growing up long ago, who care only about technique and complexities of guitar playing and nothing else. Its a shame to me as i feel that these albeit "talented"people are missing the whole point of music completely.

My comments may be slightly off-tangent to shredcows postings and initial comments, but i feel that this is an opportune time to let you guys know what i feel.

Anyways,

Ciel, I will see how ok, ur god damn DR!HAHAAHAHA

anyhow bomb.shameless promoter u!
