well if u enjoyed scenes from a memory than i must say you have enjoyed JR. you think he doesn't have the mood? check out his keyboard solo in Live Scenes from NY. Or maybe Liquid Tension's hourglass, or when the water breaks. You can't fault a keyboardist for being too fast. He is fast, granted, but he also knoes when to slow down, and just sound damn sexy... :)

Since we r talkin abt DT here, lemme clear up some of the facts...

DT was originally set up by Petrucci, Myung and Portnoy while they were at Berkley. Kevin Moore being a childhood fren of Petrucci, joined the band after being asked by Petrucci to do keyboards. They were an instrumental band at first till they got Charlie Dominici who later joined in as vox. After a not so succesful debut album, Dominici left the band in which James LaBrie took over as vox.

While in the midst of doing the Awake album, Kevin Moore was less keen to do a "band project" and was more interested in doing his own solo project. After the relationship between KM and DT became distant, KM left the band but with much regrets by the members of DT, esp Petrucci.

So while searching for a keyboardist it was narrowed down to 2 keyboardist, Jordan Rudess and Jens Johansoon(now of Stratovarius). So DT decided to go with Jordan, however Jordan was bz with Dregs at that point of time and couldnt commit whereas Jens went on to do Stratovarius.

So in the end they had to hire a sessionist, Derek Sherinian, but after a few succesful gigs with him, DT decided to hire him full time. Right after the FTI Tour, DT found out that Jordan was free from his Dregs commnitment. They offered him the slot for the second time and this time Jordan agreed(due to the successful side projects with LTE). So Derek was fired of the slot and in came Jordan, and the rest is history...

I've blabbered enough I think...

Phew... :?

Thank u very much for the compliments.. Well all the bands that got in the finals fully deserved it IMO.. We didnt get in cause we were'nt gd enough thats all. Hope u guys kick some major ass tonight! All the best man!!

i agree that sometimes, the importance of keyboardnists are played down...yeah.. my church band have keyboardnists, and sometimes, they do add the fun in, and of course, it really depends on the bands themselves.

some guitarists like things to be their way, some vocalists do it too...[limp bizkit?] and some, other musicians like it this way, like it like that.

i believe for DT, they had a disagreement, and the keyboardnist left...[correct me if i'm wrong] .. but one thing i know, is that you shouldn't just assume that all keyboardnists are like that, all guitarists are like that... that way..you're just stereotyping everything...

and in a band, there is a need for a leader, and of course, a sense of team-work. if there's no chemistry, why should they be together in the first place? you see...we guitarists value keyboardnists to a certain extent, but certain genres of music requires different virtuosos' showing. on keyboard-based songs, of course the keyboardnists are THE main ones...its just like drummers...they're always in the background, but that's their job..and if you're good enough, you'll get noticed.!. maybe, its just that guitars are usually the main instrument, and of course, being the main player gives you different rights, and if they are the appointed indian chiefs, then give them the rights of one, and if htey appoint themselves, kick them out? why not?

To Cavett...Don b disappointed.. ur band r great! n wat soul d out say is true..ur band got evrything... i've heard u guys play n my band members ( Shakespear ) luv it.. don wory there is always another chance to proof..!

Ignore his flaming. never think just wana anyhow flame.

Keys are impt. period.

Its has got the versatility that every band can benifit from.
But its the players that define the keyboardist role.

you can be a unknown/sideline kinda member like in Bon jovi or gnr's that izzy guy or something.

or you can be the shredding frontman rudess from dream theater
or just simply a front man, like Chris martin hahaha....

Dizzy Reed keyboard player of GnR
Ted "Zig Zag" is the other big hairy guy that appeared in the Yesterdays video.

what's the brickering about?
with internet and file sharing,
any music can be downloaded.

I NEED A CREATIVE & SUPER ENTHUSIASTIC KEYBOARDIST / MIX

When I was performing 'Live' for paid gigs...I could not find a super enthusiastic keyboardist who bothers to re-programme existing midi files or do a different creative rendition of any cover version of any song/s...

I am seeking a Keyboardist cum Mixer to do the songs I had composed as a singer and to perform 'Live' on stage.

I have the venue and sound system for 'Live' gigs.

I would love to collaborate on a joint promotion with this creative & enthusiastic Keyboardist/Mixer as well.

If he sings and does his own original composition...that would be a bonus!

If any Keyboardist / Mixer is super keen and willing to commit your time and throw out your creative karma....please e-mail me at bionic_w2002@yahoo.com

good keyboardists are really really really hard to find... most of them have like 2-3 bands at the same time... haizzz

i need a good keyboardist!!!!! please RESPOND!!!!!

any band can survive without keyboards.

its just that most singaporeans are exposed to music using the conventional drum, guitar, bass setup.

its possible to replace guitar with keys n stuff like that (like in weather report). Its not that the keyboard is indispensible or is unecessary. It depends on context.

Since joining this post, I've never come across foul language being thrown around within the kybd section, whether directly or "hidden", like what our attention-seeking STEVEARSON had done.

Well Stevearson, when you said keyboard players normally suck, can you or are you capable enough to provide statistics of all the kybdists who need to play from score, can't play by ear, those who suck big time, etc as what you have claimed to be a true phenomenon?...Oh yeah, dun forget to include those kybdists who have screwed you from behind so hard that made you so hateful of all kybdists, OK?

Having said this, I do believe ignoring this fellow is the best strategy coz I'd expect his verbal retaliation from this point onwards. Nevertheless, I've spoken my mind especially after seeing how he responded to Soft. What is it with the T-shirt? So, what is he driving at?

To end, I express my deepest sympathy to stevearson's possible neglected/abused childhood/life. I, a kydbist who had never done you wrong, forgive you (& will ignore you too from this point onwards unless you can talk sensibly). Take care!
