Keyboard bags

Hey guys,

just wanna ask what kinda keyboard bags you guys use to carry your keyboards? Any particular brand? My keyboard bag is less than a year old and its already falling apart and 2 shoulder straps have broken so far this year and I'm thinking if its because of the quality of the bag or is it just me. :D

Nothing less than a hard flight case. I don't risk my keyboards with soft bags. What kind of keyboards are you referring to anyway?

I used a soft case (Gator GK-76) for my ES7 for gigs and rehearsals for about 18 months. No problem. Both the 'board and the case are still in great shape. I've just replaced it with a Yamaha hard case I saw at Music Plaza... because it was a very nice case.

Both my Nords are in Nord Gig Bags. 88 key Kurz is in a hard case.

Note I do all my own load in and load out and know to be careful. If hired help was involved, I'd use all hard cases for sure.

You can have my GK-76 cheap if you need a case that size.

I have a Triton, and the reason I don't use a hard case is because I do not drive, so carrying a hard case around is gonna be a problem.

Are there actually soft cases which we can carry on our bags? Something like how guitarists carry their guitars, I think it would more convenient that way.

the Triton is heavy isn't it?
using a soft case might not be a good idea?

the Gator GK-76 case comes with wheels, probably
a good carry case for your Triton. :D

Regarding Keyboard Bags.

I am using a Warwick Rockbag for my triton Extreme not a problem though. Have been using it for close to a year. But the extreme 61keys is very heavy, its hard to carry around unless you have a car or take taxi. http://www.rockbag.de/

There are 2 issues here:

1. Portability. This seems to be your main concern - that's why you want a bag to help you carry your keyboard around easily.

2. Protection. People seems to forget one of the main purposes of cases is to protect what's in it. I don't use a soft bag for my acoustic guitar either. The case is heavy, but I can't imagine what would have happened to my guitar if not for the case. The same goes for keyboards. It's more costly and definitely worth to protect.

If portability is a very real concern, you may want to rethink your setup. A more portable setup would be a light keyboard controller (most of them are very portable) and a sound module. If you really need the sequencer on your Triton, a notebook will be easier to carry around. Of course, the best portable solution is to go totally software.

In the good old days, I used to bring along my Roland ep7 digital piano in a soft bag (lighter weight and not so costly) and my sound module. I can travel on the bus with that (during the days when MRT was non-existent), amongst people staring at me. But if I need anything more than that (in the days when I own a Yamaha SY99), I will use a hardcase and travel by car/taxi. I didn't want to risk damaging anything expensive.

Well I have no choice, but to use a soft case because I do not drive and I'm not working so taking a cab everytime I jam is going to cost me alot, so I resorted to using a soft case to lighten the load though I make sure I'm extra careful with my keyboard when I pass through the turnstiles at the train station.

The Gator bag does look attractive. You guys know of any place that sells Gator bags?

You have a 76 key Triton? My Gator is for sale cheap ($80). It's too big if you have a 61 key unit.

I got it new at Music Plaza.

That's why a more portable solution is attractive.

Yeah mine's the 76 key one. Well I'll look around first, don't really need one urgently since I'm done with my gigging for the moment(exams approaching soon).
