John Petrucci's Live sound

well i think cause his ... pedal... rack... board... uh

parapara mat

has like 18072381023917210932 different settings for different songs

so i think it must be quite digitized...

go search for his set up on youtube there was a video of his mat...

watch his videos. i know about his rig.
just would like to know what u guys hav to say bout this sound

He plays in a progressive metal band. I dont think it possible to have like 20+ pedals on the floor & if he wants eg: from acoustic to clean with chrous to heavy rhythm then to lead with delay etc, i think he'll be more bz stepping on pedals rather than playing. Having rackmount effects is not a bad thing. All he has to do is program his patches in his com & use midi-foot controller, he can have any combination he wants. But well, different people has different opinions about it. Even Steve Vai uses a TC Electronic G System for his modulations.

Sounds digitalish? maybe on his modulations. But his lead tone is PERFECT!!!

I prefer his ibanez tone.

I think its because of his amp change, thats y. From MARK IIC to a Roadking & a whole new rig. His tone does change alot from there.

yeah, of course lah, thats wat he wants. total control of his sound.

yeah i know, to each his own. but i repeat, just want to know wat u guys tink.

when i said, sounds digitalish to me doesn't mean i dont like his tone. nice to hear but there r better sounding players out there.

Just a discussion thread guys! 8)

JP's older tone when he did the rock discipline vid? I didn't enjoy it too.. it works definately, for the band and all, but its very boring IMO.

TC electronic claims its G Major wont colour your tone. But to me, watever go thru AD/DA, your tone is already being altered. Like it or not (tone), its a matter of preference..

Isn't it one thing or another? I mean... say, it somehow really doesn't colour your tone, it might affect the feel... or affect the way your other effects work...

Any vids out there with JP playing thru a minimalist rig?

Thats what matters. He recoqnizes that his tone needs to work for the band.

I'll be willing to bet he wishes his tone could be abit different and more juicy but you do have to make sacrifices. :)
