yeh awesome clinic!! think it helps that it was in the middle of the day so my attention span was pretty high. a bit sad that there weren't more pple, should have seen way more school-age kids since it's the hols. oh well. maybe 1st day of hol, all went gallivanting.

Anyone knows the sticking of the "diddle in the middle" lick Jimmy spoke about?

That is the Inward single paradiddle sticking....unless he named it 'diddle in the middle' cos he created some new lick with it?? I wasn't there, so pls elaborate leh...

I guess Jimmy meant the same thing as inward paradiddle, just that he knew the sticking pattern as "Diddle in the middle"as that was the term he was taught from.

Its actually playing groove with the rllr lrrl sticking, but with strategic placement of accents to create a funky sound. If what I hear is correct it goes like that:

16th notes:

RLLR LRRL RLLR LRRL

Those in bold are accented strokes.

Right hand notes are played on hi-hat, cow-bell or toms. Every accented right hand note is played together with bass drum.

Left hand notes are played on snare. Non-accented left hand notes should be ghosted.

Yup so with this you can get quite a funky sounding groove, and Jimmy also mentioned that you could play around with bass drum and accent placements to create your own groove with this pattern.

Awesome and inspiring clinic. It was touching how Jimmy Lee and Tama Goh were so ready to answer any questions and share thoughts, hoping that one day we will have a super drummer coming out from Singapore whom we can be proud. Both of them are so humble and down to earth
