hey those who own the J&H! any settings to share? i realised i owned this pedal for quite long but only use 2 settings. :(

when do you guys use the sharp function and when do you not? how can i get the mean paul gilbert sound frmo racer x?

whooh!

Haha I also set and use two setting mainly. I mostly set the Jekyll to boost and Hyde as main distortion. However as you know sometimes Hyde a bit thin, so I use both at the same time. For normal pop/rock then Jekyll with low drive, mid tone.

Racer X ah, not quite sure, never really listen to them.

the distortion side is pretty ok i find. I love the sound of that.

but i guess the overdrive side works more like a tubescreamer rather than a dirty stomp.

The jekyll side is one of the best TS808 sounds that u can get imo. With the added bass boost. I turn up the gain, lower the vol on the jekyll and it gets a good fat crunch.

The hyde is unusable in any setting for me cept if i combine with the jekyll channel to get the sustained harmonics sound.

i'm using this pedal sorely for the jekyll side. Maybe Visualsound shld release a single channel pedal jekyll pedal insted, the hyde side is quite redundant

I use the jekyll side 90% of the time. Using it standalone, gain almost up to 3'o clock for a fat crunch into a clean amp.

the other 10% i would combine both channels if i require a piercing lead sound.

i found the hyde channel really thin too so had it modded my randolf. sounds really sweet now. most of the time i'm on the hyde channel, my tone control usually reanges from 4 to 6, with the eq more to the mids, the drive isn't fixed, i change that a lot. i use the jekyll channel more as a boost for solos or if i want a sudden increase in gain. i seldom use the jekyll channel on its own, if i do the gain settings usually around 4 for blues and around 8 for slightly higher gain. when i use it as a boost though the gain's usually around 2 or 3 and i keep the tone at abt half.

well before the mod i found that when on 'blunt' the tone still sounded real thin and dry, and cos of this i had to adjust the eq and tone knobs to dial in more mids or bass to make the sound more full, this limited the range of the eq and tone knobs for me cos anything beyond this range was a sound which i did not like. worse still on the 'sharp' setting which i never used at all before the mod.

after having it sent to randolf, the sound's a lot warmer to my liking now. when set to 'sharp' i'm able to to dial in more tones for metal, high speed solos etc, adjusting the eq n tone knobs a little i can get more warmth, slightly fuller tone for those catchy riffs or appregios, for lead playing.
in the 'blunt' setting the 'chug' you get out of palm muting it sounds so much nicer. now we've got LOTS of warmth. btw, harmonics are a lot nicer now.

however, i also realised that the affect this had on the jekyll channel wasn't as much to my liking as it had on the hyde channel. the overdrive now doesn't have as much articulation as it did when it was stock. but i can live with this since i use it more as a boost and only once in awhile for blues. i use the hyde channel a lot more.

yea this is just how i feel about the pedal, the mod made the hyde channel a lot more versatile. ofcourse, it all boils down to personal preference, which is what i feel is most important. if you love the pedal stock, keep it stock!!! haha! :D

oh ya take note all this is while using a mahogany body, maple neck rg with seymour duncan duncan distortion and duncan customs. also, i use the bridge pickup a lot more than the neck.

i tried something out just now..

i put something linking both the switches.
and i tried using it as 1 stompbox instead of 2.
but of course you have to tweak accordingly.
and it sound great.
and if you want a booster for solos or lead parts
then you can use a TS or another overdriver.

yea dude, the pedal does sound great when both channels are on. but don't you think adding another overdrive pedal to boost it makes the whole lot quite noisy. that's what i think man. yea :D

i also use mostly on the "J" side of my J&H. It is more like a TS9DX for me & the "H" side is a more aggressive distortion module.

i hardly combine them for usage.

yes it does have a hum to it. but its not to a point where its unbearable.

but anyway , it was just an experiment i was trying out. usually i use my J side as a tubescreamer, and the H side as my primary distortion for heavy sounds.

im planning to get a distortion pedal for something more ' conservative '.
i was thinking about the keelay modded ds1.
and reco guys?
