can anybody there help me? i noe im more than capable than making it into a top jc in singapore but i am for some reason not so keen to go to jc. im currently contemplating going to a poly as im pretty interested in 2 courses-- the music one in SP or a life sciences course in SP.. so wat do i do???

Do what I do. Get the results first, then talk.

In the case where you've already graduated, do the one which you enjoy. No use ending up in a high paying high stress job which you don't enjoy.

hey man. doesnt matter whether or in a jc or poly. just matters where u wanna go and what ur interested in. if you arent so keen in going into a jc then don't. in the long term it would realyl affect you if your somewhere u dont wanna be. hope this helps.

try out the first 3 months first, you can quit at any time so wont be too late to head to poly if you cant bear the place

if u are aiming for a JC ..

its a 2 year mugging course for uni , it will be fun but epect alot of stress and cramming.

poly is 3 years diploma , alot of project work , alot of "real world" knowledge acquisition.more similar to working life.

top JC = nothing less than hwa chong I , RJ , VJ , NJ TJ... anything else other than those JC's , u run a big risk missing uni cut to the more "popular" science related courses

haha the top 5 JCs changed already. Now it's HC, RJ, VJ, AC and AJ. But yeah, go for the first 3 months in JC and see if it suits you. I always think of JC as the choice if you don't know what you wanna do in future so you keep your choices open, but if you know what you want to be already, poly will be more suitable because you can skip the extra subjects and go straight to what you wanna study.

I'm from HCJC and it's really a system where you HAVE to mug to get results. Or else it's very possible to get retained and have to repeat J1. Plus the workload is quite tough, expect to get at least 3 tests per month and assignments aplenty........

if you hafnt got sick of the system and the exams, well jc is the way to go.

I heard they're gonna remove the 1st 3 months thingy eh?

hey stars , you left out ajc in that list....

it depends if you wanna go uni or not.

for poly students to go uni, it's really not that easy. to enter local uni, you need top grades, consistently for whole 3 years, good cca records too. but if you decide to go overseas, it's not that easy too. for one thing, many overseas unis are not familiar with the concept of our local polytechnics and thus, either reject us based on unfamiliarity or give us very little advance standing so you got to start from first year again. (when you finish poly, you're 20 years old). but if you go australia uni then it's a different thing. please do take note, australia unis are getting more and more expensive, going to uni of sydney costs S$40, 000. im not kidding. australia unis do welcome us local students, you do get 1-2 years off and everything.

but with an A level cert, you have to do well, get a BCC can get you anywhere pretty much and A levels are easily recognisable everywhere.

yes, poly is indeed more fun and interesting and you learn much much more useful and relevant things. it'll be good to go poly if you plan to work after poly, if you wish to go uni, i advise you to suck it in and mug for 2 years and do well.

i took the poly route and realise i should have gone for A levels because it's hard to go uni now, even overseas (except for australia lah).

if you're a guy, go poly and then uni, you'll be about 22-23 when you enter uni. most people graduate out of uni at that age :p

take care and think carefully k... think long term.

i strongly advise you not to go to jc unless you're the chao mugger type. anyway unless you're planning to go to a singapore university, the a level certificates dont really carry much weight because for a lot of american schools except the not so good ones you still have to use the SAT as your main entry qualification. A levels are more for the british system schools.

ITE east got a nice campus. Go there, then u have a few more years to decide where you wanna go. ITE->POLY->UNI :p
I am in Biotech in Temasek Poly...my JC friend told me its more stressful than JC, tomorrow 8am to 6pm, 1 hour break...For life sciences, its not to be called an "easy way out" just because its in Poly...we take more modules than other courses. Thus we got 30 over hours of school a week...So thats life in Life Sciences, but for the Music and Sound in SP, i'm not too sure cos i dont know anyone who is in there.

JCs arent ranked according to top 5 anymore . at least the rankings arent released to the public ..

Poly u can skip only if u meet certain prerequisities.e.g networking module , if u have taken your cisco certified networking associate cert (CCNA) , you can skip 6 months or 1 semester of school.

for uni short cut / skip certain modules . I am afraid only private universities and selected courses at public universities allow you to skip certain modules if you come in with a poly diploma.

its a minimum A level pass of B B and C to get into uni, acts and social sciences faculuty.

for poly , its much harder to enter unless you are entering the discipline your diploma is rooted in. e.g B.A in Enginnering , if you have a engineering diploma.

Isn't it even harder to get to an american Uni from poly?
And I wouldn't stereotype all jc students as chao muggers...there's diversity everywhere. Some of the best atheletes and most socially active people come from JCs, so there you go.
Think before you speak man.
