JC or Poly

I am the one who went Poly and now is at a local U. I am 4 years older than the ladies of my batch and 2 years older than the guys of my batch. And to be honest, I never regret going to Poly, even though my sec friends who went jc have graduated and got a job, while I am still a undergrad. Poly really prepares u for the real world, not jus stuff u with info for u to "vomit" out during the exams.

I went for the 3 month Jc thingy and couldnt stand the environment, I find it pressurising. I always remember my poly days fondly, as its a more "open" environment where u are allowed "to breathe". My current Uni days reminds me of the 3months jc, really pressurising, but I have to bite the bullet and endure it, cos cant afford to go overseas.

If u are sick of the system and want a more "open" and "free" environment, go to a poly. But if u do not want to end up like me, so old already still studying....ahahhaha... then go jc 8)

if i not wrong.. from O's u can go U... yesh.. my fren.. from O's goes to get a degree.. the institude is located at TOA PAYOH!! well where she took the bus to her sch.. yeah.. but the degree is 4 yrs if i not wrong.. and ur holiday is onli abt 3 to 4 weeks a year =X yeah..

o's to uni.. won't your brain like explode or sth =\
so back to the million-dollar question.. ultimately.. JC OR POLY?!?!

so what if the individual's screwed and can't decide? lol! technically, which one's supposed to give you more free time?

hahaha.. for me poly.. i jus dun 1 study.. after 21.. anyway i from sec 5.. and im a guy.. still go NS.. then go back U.. like dunno can cope anot.. yeah.. if a gal.. 16 finish O's.. then 2 years JC = 18.. then go U.. is 21? or 22.. so not so bad.. we guys are left behind. lol by 2 to 3 years.. yeah.. it upp to u.. how u guys wan spent ur life in the future and or how committed u wan to study..

so my ANSWER POLY OR JC? JC OR POLY? ITE THE BEST :)

happie go sch.. happie go home... no stress.. relax.. and beside if u do well in ITE u get scholarship :) hahahaha.. jus look on the bright side of life :)

*rolls eyes* smart laaa! Haha. Or did you go LaSalle or something? Lol.

lol. smart laaaa. i got into one of the top 10 hardest unis to get into in the states when i was 16. in addition to being brilliant, charming, and having boyish good looks, i'm also exceedingly modest.

LOL ok ok i'm gonna stop now before i get hate mail. :( but on a serious note though, don't take me too seriously. i don't.

but back to the jc/poly debate.....honestly, i think if your goal is to go to uni, it's gonna make your life way easier to do jc. sure you have to work hard, and hard work sometimes involves mugging or doing boring, thankless stuff. but you can't expect all the good stuff to fall in your lap without encountering some stuff you hate to deal with along the way. and of course, if you choose the JC route, you have to study because if you don't make it to uni, your A level cert isn't gonna get you far. so failure isn't an option.

on the other hand, if your goal isn't necessarily to go to uni (and this may be for a myriad of reasons...some people do uni for academic interest, some see it as a work investment towards higher salaries, etc) then you should probably seriously consider poly. it might not open as many doors as uni will right off the bat, but it will give you a lot of practical work experience, which oftentimes is extremely valuable because it's applied knowledge. universities tend to teach theory and expect their students to intern during their summer breaks to get applied knowledge and/or practical experience.

both have advantages and disadvantages, the one which will open more doors in terms of fields and job opportunities is probably university. but polytechnics will give you early work experience, which will put you slightly ahead of your uni competitors who are competing for the same job as you.

essentially, uni gives you more doors to pick from. poly gives you less doors, but you get a 3 minute headstart in the game.

neither of these apply in the long run, generally, because no matter what your education level is, if you're competent at your job, you'll probably do very well at it. but in terms of coming fresh out of school, these are likely to be the situations you'll find yourself in. sometimes it's not so much whether you're interested in what you're doing as it is whether you want to give yourself opportunities later on that you may otherwise not be able to take. think of your education more as an investment than as a procedure.

cheers,

i certainly want to go to a uni, thats for sure. probably an overseas one. but im still confused as to whether or not to go to poly or jc... at the end of the day when im 30, i wanna be able to enjoy life and not just "get-by" with a miserable job.

i agree.. having a job that you hate (or don't particularly enjoy) would be pure torture, ain't it? esp if its the same routine everyday. but even jc (arts stream) has very limited choices when you're applying for uni courses..

if u a guy.. dun think u can enjoy much.. maybe at the age of 24? and u must keep in mind by 23 or 24.. u have no job.. :) how to enjoy if u go U.. yesh study is definately a investment for better future.. more $$$ and etc.. but u must study also bcos u want to.. if not.. u might have a difficult time coping and instead of graduate form u at the age of 24.. u graudate age of 25.. (for guys) then still jobless.. so u must plan properly.. if u wan study go ahead.. u need to sacrifice realli alot of things.. as when u go poly of U.. it more to independent learning and responsibilities.. :) but the reward at the end is great of cos.. $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ yeah..

JC is a one way trip.. u take Jc route.. u better go to U and get a degree.. if u drop out.. can say u are worst then ITE graduate.. :)

poly is more secure job.. if u stop at poly u are still higher rank than others.. maybe second highest?? 1st is degree.. but poly u still can drop out if u nv cope.. yeah..

both have advantage and disadvantage.. :) beside.. JC u need a good Cut of point to get it too.. poly not really.. as JC require 6 subj.. and poly 5.. so u decide from there too.. :)

JC requires 6 subjects? i thought you just need 4 AO subjects? sorry but i'm seriously totally clueless on this =p

mr x, what course are you doing? sounds freaking scary. lol.

brainfailure, its true, have you heard anyone saying that the best part of their life is SCHOOL?! lol~

Haha, it's correct! There's no other phase of your life where you can play, jam, screw around without worrying that much about how you're gonna survive. After going to work, just go to the office in the morning, come back in the evening, at most play a bit of guitar then fall asleep on the bed. School's still better, dismiss in afternoon then can do whatever you want lol. But I'm a student so don't take my words about work as biblical truth haha.
