jack for cable to computer

hi tany

there could be a few reasons why there is no sound.

1. no sound from headphone jack
plug in a headphone and listen if there's actually any sound or not.

2. connection from headphone jack to computer is bad.
are you sure that the cable is working? since your signal source is headphone, you should plug it into the LINE-IN (Blue connector on the computer side)

3. windows mixer not set up properly
you see a little [SPEAKER] icon on the right bottom of your computer screen? right-click on it and select Open Volume Control. Click on OPTIONS and select PROPERTIES -> RECORDING. Make sure the LINE-IN is Selected.

4. software not set up properly
audacity is quite a straight forward software. hmmm... what could go wrong here?,,,,,, oh, try again. Did you select LINE-IN?

As you're just starting out, you don't have to get any external usb interface if you just want simple recording, lest you want to spend unneccessary money at this stage. The best method is just to use a mic to record the sound coming out from your amp.

Under START - PROGRAMS - ACCESSORIES - ENTERTAINMENT - SOUND RECORDER

You should have a mic plugged in to your mic-in of your sound card.

1. check your mic connection

2. go to settings - control panel - sound and audio - under device volume, click on advance to bring up the volume control panel.

then go options - properties and click on the Recording button and then click ok ( to adjust volume of recording devices)

ensure that the microphone vol is up and it is *ticked* in the box below. It enables the sound input recording from the mic-in from your sound card.

To hear your own voice while using the mic thru your computer speaker (like karaoke)

- click on options - properties and click on the playback button. Then click ok. Unmute the microphone by click on the box below to remove the tick (if any)

Just fiddle around with your settings on your windows control panel. More often than not, the problem resides there.
