Hi friends,

As the tittle states, is it possible to mod a combo amp into a cab?
I'm using a VOX AD100VT 100 watt amp. It has 2 x 12 inch VOX oringinal 16 ohm speakers.

I would like to make this into a cab and get a amp head to go along with it.

Anyone had any success in making this kind of mod happen?
Do share
Cheers!
:)

why not? i think tymusic does sell some cab making packages that you can grab. Just make sure you know what you are doing, do your required research :)

couple years back, theres a forum member, chanmin, who did something similar, to his combo 5150 amp. Theres some pictures on the forum here if not wrong.

The 5150 combo amp was hacked and divided into a cab portion and amp head.

Beez does if with Marshall MG15s, and sells them with bigger speakers and mods. I'm sure it can be done with your nice Vox.

Its actually very simple. Just unscrew the 6 screws at on both sides and you will find that you can remove the entire amp module leaving just the cabinet.

hey guys, thx for the input.
Yeah i have already been doing some research on how to go about doing it.
I think the main factor is how to go about getting the parts and hooking it up with both speakers.

grey: i may check out tymusic to see if they have them.

Anyone knows anywhere else i can get the parts and what i would need?

i'll probably leave the amp in tact but just unhook the amp from the speakers.
Well, at least i still can switch back if i want to by hooking them back

:)

The amp is actually in a open frame and is connected to the speaker via a wire socketed to the PCB that comes out from a small hole in the amp cab.

All you have to do is to buy a 1/4" socket and fit it into that hole and you are done.

Hi junklemanxl, as for my Fender Champ combo, I removed the whole electronics plate and make a new housing/cab for it. I do that cause the existing speaker is too small (6 inch) and don't sound good. Futhermore the input and volume pot is located at the back of the amp. Look at the front view of the original Fender Champ 600.

OK bro, I will upload my modded cab pics once I'm home.

This is the modded amp with the cab all made by myself.

And you know what, I still keep the original cab with the speaker, in case if I feel like switching back.
