Is it better to start off with the acoustic guitar

action too low. maybe they will set it up for free and maybe they'll charge $.
depends on which shop u brought it. :D happy new year xD

Sian lah, new guitar must pay some ore $ so tat it can play properly. Is there any way to raise the action by myself? Btw ty for all ur help

Bottom-line, it's basically up to you. Though getting a cheaper alternative to the electric guitar ( classical or acoustic ) first to see to your technique and to foster your passion. But to hell with my advice if you already made up your mind. ;)

Ty for ur advice. I bought an acoustic liao. U started off with electric, acoustic or classical?

raise action by yourself : better not as it would be a trouble if you were to mess up the guitar.its best to get someone experienced in it to do the stuff for you.hopefully u can steal some knowledge by watching the ppl set up your guitar.that is,if they let u see what they're doing.u can also get someone experienced in guitar repair to teach you,not the ones in the shops.maybe a friend that knows guitar repair to teach you.

hahas so lesson learnt, check properly when you are buying a guitar and make sure u try it out on the spot and see if theres anything wrong with it.

maybe you could actually go back to the shop that you brought the guitar and ask to see if they could set it up for you since that u brought the guitar from there not long ago.

good luck for finding reasonable prices for your setting up!:D

Yeah, i started off with an acoustic then got me a fine electric after a year or so, but anyways hope with love playing cuz that's the only way to get better.:D

Yes lesson well learnt. Read up tat raising the action only involves adjustment of truss rod. So if i change mu guitar strings, will they do it 4 free? Btw ty everyone for ur help. Really appreciate it

actually, since you brought the guitar from there about less than a few weeks ago, they should help you raise it for free.
but adjustment of the truss rod could help solve the problem if its not too serious.
Just go to the shop where u brought the guitar and c what they can do for you.hopefully they'll do it for free hahas :D

Or if you're competent enough to do the job, just turn the truss rod to the right to lower the action if that's what you're gunning for.

Ok ty for ur help. String must change how often ah? And how much is 1 set of 6 strings?

diff strings have diff price and when u buay tahan then change string lor...no real fixed time. some ppl change every week, some change every few months, the pros change after every gig.

You can get them at most hardware and guitar shops though there are different sizes. Theres one at home fix where there are a few bundled up together for 7 dollars.

Choose whatever you feel like using because you'll want to feel comfortable playing it, though you would have to set-up the guitar accordingly like getting the intonation right and the action.

From my point of view, start with electric if u wanna play electric & vice versa.
I started with acoustic and moved on to electric, yes a few months i've got the dead skin on my fingers... After a few months most of the skin is soft again why? becuz u don't need to press as hard on electrics, playing electrics will develop the amount of dead skin required for playing it no point going more than that... so no point to go into acoustic if u wanna play electric just for the DEAD SKIN ON THE FINGERS MY BROTHER! =)

Sorry Keep DEAD SKIN DEAD SKIN lol idk how to spell the callcuousousekkqwndlkashd wad ever

haha thats a first...i thought ppl kept saying acoustics train ur finger strength. never thought abt callouses in the 1st place. but then again i realised after playing electric for abt a year plus that playing acoustics dont really help much, in the end when u go back to acoustics from electrics u will still be able to barre that F chord

haha.. true, playing acoustic guitar helps build up callouses, strengthens the fingers and allows you to train more in rhythm guitar playing... steeper learning curve... after that the switch to electrical will be quite a breeze...

1) I will recommend you go from acoustic---> electric, instead of the other way round.

2) I played acoustic for 2 years before i played electric guitar.

3) Self teaching can be really difficult, when you dont have anyone to guide you along. I will reccommend you going for lessons after you have learnt the very basics through internet like chords, picking, strumming.
