Is it better to start off with the acoustic guitar

Which part of teck whye u live? I live at teck whye lane. Lol the dunking in warm water method sounds kind of funny. U watch k-on too?

Btw have anyone tried the azunyan finger exercise? Is it effective?

Teck whye lane too xD yupp i watch k-on
tried the finger exercise.but i didnt really need it though as i dont really have problems reaching frets.so it didnt really have effect on my playing for the finger exercise.

play songs that have the chords u have problem remembering in them. if u have problem remembering all the chords, then learn a few songs that cover all the chords. there are technically only 2 open chords to remember...the C and G open chords. the others are barre chords that can be shifted up and down the fretboard.

and the buzzing sound occurs when u are not fretting properly so just check that u have actually fretted the note near the fretwire and just hard enough that it stays under ur finger when u pick the string.

Thx for the advice!

Damn... accidentally made a chip at the corner of my guitar's headstock. Now can can see the brownish colour of the wood. My heart very pain now. The chip is very small around the size of this alphabet 'O'. Will this lead to more major problems? Or will it remain as a simple cosmetic flaw?

small chip on the headstock probably wont have damage on the sound produced or whatsoever that will affect your performance.
just a cosmetic flaw.

Thx for the reply. Feel relieved yet my heart still aches. I try to be so careful with the guitar yet this happened. Wat do u do to prevent your guitar from this kind o0f cosmetic damages? (Scratches, chips, dings, etc...)

when you are not using your guitar, put it inside its case.
its really better to put your guitars in casings when you are not using.
placing your guitars in case helps to slow down the rust of the strings cos strings tend to rust more quickly when its in open air and depending on the temperature of the surroundings.
placing your guitar in the bag also helps to prevent unwanted decorations by pests in your house.eg.lizard shit LOL.

when you are using your guitar.always remember to handle with care.make sure there are enough space for your practice and not cramped.if youre practicing in a cramped up place, the chances of accidentally hitting the walls or surroundings is surely higher.
(treat it as your baby or your gf or someone or something that is ippt to your life.take good care of it and dont allow any accidents to happen to it.).

if youre not using a guitar bag, remember to place it in a place where there is NO water contact.place it somewhere safe and should not be able to tumble and drop to the floor or anywhere.to prevent strings from rusting when youre not placing it in a guitar bag,try to cover most of the parts of the guitar, especially the string parts.
the cloth material that you choose to cover the guitar with should not be too fury or can be easily pierced through the guitar strings at the headstock as it will be a trouble if the cloth gets stuck on the guitar strings for the headstock part.

thats all i know based on experience.hope its helpful! :D

Thx for the advice! When u say put the guitar in it case, do u mean a gig bag or a hard case? And since Singapore is an extremely humid place, can i put silica gel in the case?

P.S. When use a pick (i always use a pick) and strum the guitar strings individually without pressing any of the frets, none of them buzzes. But when i strum guitar strings E (low), A and D while pressing the strings very hard at frets 1-5, there is a buzz. If i strum lightly, there is no buzz. If i strum with medium strength, there is a slight buzz. If i strum hard, the buzz gets even louder. Only when i use a foreign object such as a coin to press the frets with alot of strength, there will be no more buzz even when i strum hard. I have not changed the guitar strings since i first bought it (i bought it exactly a week ago) so the strings are still stock. I have not gotten anyone to set-up the guitar and have neither attempted to set it up by myself too. Btw my guitar brand is a Savannah acoustic which cost under $140 so i pretty much doubt that it's a good guitar. So wats the problem: The set-up of the guitar? The guitar itself? My lousy technique? Something else? Any help will be appreciated! Tyvm!

guitar case or gig bag also can.put silica gel if u wanna be xtra safe.

have you tried to use your fingers to play the guitar strings?does it buzz too?
have u tried to adjust the position of the frets up and down and c if it buzzes too?
have you tried to change the force applied to the 1st n 5th frets when u play?does it buzz?
is it a long buzz or a very short buzz?
have u tried asking someone else to try and play the guitar and see if it buzzes too?
if u tried all of the above, and it buzzes,u might need to get your guitar checked

$140 is about the average price of a really normal acoustic guitar :x

Unless i use my fingers and strum pretty hard, there's no buzz

have u tried to adjust the position of the frets up and down and c if it buzzes too?
Umm... wat do u mean by adjusting the position of the frets up and down?

have you tried to change the force applied to the 1st n 5th frets when u play?does it buzz?
Yes the harder i press the softer the buzz. But there's a limit to how hard i can press cos if i press 2 hard, my fingers will hurt like hell

is it a long buzz or a very short buzz?
Its a short buzz at the start (around 3-5s)

have u tried asking someone else to try and play the guitar and see if it buzzes too?
Lol i dont know any1 who can play the guitar so cant ask some1 else to play

if u tried all of the above, and it buzzes,u might need to get your guitar checked
So does my guitar need to be checked? Thx!

the action between the guitar neck and the strings might not be correct.
i dont know.im no expert hahas :D
better to get your guitar checked.
if theres nothing wrong with it .i dont think they'll charge u any $.
if theres nothing wrong with the guitar then the problem might be that the force u applied on the frets is too heavy or too light.
if your finger hurts.just bear with it for awhile cos your fingers will start to harden as u practice on the guitar.and sooner or later it dosent even hurt a single bit.

but i think its probably sth wrong with the action.

Thx 4 the reply. Izzit they never set up the guitar properly in the factory or is mine defective? Btw how much does changing the action cost?

Okay i just took 2 pics of the action. Is it too high or too low or juz rite? Btw this r the problematic first 5 frets

ur action looks way too low. if u're staying near woodlands bring it down to sv @ woodlands. mike is usually there. he definitely wont charge if there isn't anything wrong with ur guitar. not sure about the other shops though...

lol i can't actually see the strings... almost touching the fretboard... maybe take a closer pic at the 5-7th fret and post again =)
my lespaul is way higher than yours, and ibanez RG abit higher than yours (got abit of buzz but can live with it cause i normally speed playing with that guitar)

btw there is no need to press the fret hard, the correct intonation is just to give enough contact between the string and the fret line to make a definite sound.

Thks for the replies. I will probably take it to a shop and let them take a look at it. Since i just got this guitar 2 wednesdays ago, will the shop set it up properly for free? And juz to confirm whether the action is too low i took another 2 pics of it at the 5th-7th fret. Btw happy new year everyone

depends on which shop u brought it. :D happy new year xD

Bottom-line, it's basically up to you. Though getting a cheaper alternative to the electric guitar ( classical or acoustic ) first to see to your technique and to foster your passion. But to hell with my advice if you already made up your mind. ;)
