well, today i was jamming at some studio, and some interesting occurred. It seemed that something somewhere was not grounded, I'm the lead singer and lead guitarist of my band, so as i was playing guitar and singing, i accidentally brought my lips a little too close to the mic, and SNAP, static. It was bloody painful. A little too painful to be your ordinary static jolt. Upon further inpection and testing, this only occurred when my fingers were OFF the guitar strings. Also, when i touched the mic and strings at the same time, ignoring the uncomfortable feeling of flowing electricity, the amp gave off the same humming sound you get when you hold onto the jack. Can anyone give me an explanation?

simple, there is a potential difference between the mic and the guitar. if you touch the metal part of the mic, and the metal part of the guitar, say, the strings, electric current will flow in between the 2. because the mic and the guitar are connected to different sources of power (to any physics buffs i apologise for my layman explanation)

so its probably i good thing that you didnt cause a power trip, sending the whole studio into darkness ;)

i learned it the hard way. i like to play my bass while using my computer

If i caused a power trip, the current woulda probably have killed me. yea, i know, potential difference, the mic is charged, and the guitar strings are grounded, and so am i.

razrash, i saw from one of the posts that you apparently played pple out with regards to a jam session which you had already agreed to participate in..

so what happened??????

wld love to see your excuses in fine print..

I think you are developing supernatural powers, like Xmen.

Give it a couple of years and maybe you could control electricity and shoot ppl with it using your fingers or stares during gigs... now that would be a truly electrifying gig.. oh yeah.

Sorry still no kopi. :( heck I'm a couch potato not a physicist
