Hi folks as some of you alrdy know, i acquired a Gibson Lespaul Classic Custom last year.

It came with a pickguard seperately in the case, not attached to the guitar already.

I was thinking should i install the pickguard? Several people have advised me not to as i would have to drill holes in my guitar since the factory didnt in order to fit the pickguard..

Causing it to. 1) Drop in value.

Secondly, i was told if the factory didnt install it, there must be a reason.

However i was also told that a pickguard was important if i wanna minimize unnecessary cosmetic blemishes on the guitar.

I dont intend to sell this guitar, so im open to options.

Do tell me what you folks think . Thanks

If you do not intend to sell it, maybe you can temporarily fix the pick guard on with mounting tape, and see if it would be uncomfortable to you while playing. If it is, then the simple answer is, no.

But if you are fine with the pick guard on, it would really be up to you if you want the pick guard to be mounted permanently. I myself won't bother, but hey whats wrong with a guitar that look a lil' rock n' roll?

the reason why its not installed in the factory is that, there are ppl that prefer how it looks without a pickguard and dont want holes in the guitar, likr why cover up some 1/3 of the beautiful maple with a ugly looking plastic?

so those who want the pickguard, go screw yourselfs :P
and no, the value wont drop.

If you're worried about pick scratches on the guitar, why not consider getting 1 of these: http://www.dscustom.com/Home Page.htm.

I use them on my acoustic and they cling on like those labels on car windscreens (you know, your country club member stickers and such). Only 8USD including international shipping, and they are removable.

If you are thinking of installing the pickguard for cosmetic purposes, go right ahead! I personally prefer the look of Les Pauls with the pickguard.

Aiyah... Check this site out: SCREWLESS PICKGUARDS http://bobbyleesignatureseries.com/

On another note, Does this guitar usually come WITH a pickguard historically? If so, then screwing it won't devalue the guitar. If people have already expected the guard to come with it, it's fine. But you'll just ruin a nice top. Heh.
