How important is chorus in your effects chain?

In terms of playing clean, ambience etc, can phaser or delay do the same job?


Perhaps, some may say it is to create another sort of effect.

i think the importance depends on what kinda music you play.
Youtube phaser and chorus to listen to the various sounds they make. Or try them out at a shop

alot of church guitarist make use of modulations when they play during worship

modulations MIGHT not be as widely used in rock bands and stuff

Was told when during ambience or more 'silent' sounding moments, it is best to kick in chorus to add in some 'weavey' effect. Just wanna hear some say on putting or using it on clean channels.

PS: Doesn't apply to clean blues etc of course, more of doing mainstream etc

chorus is the wrong implement for 'weavy' effect, phaser/ flanger would be more appropriate.

i used to have problems with telling apart chorus and delay. but now, i can tell them apart liao.

Chorus effect is effective if you want to have yourself sounding like 2 guitarists playing. Gives it that chime ringing effect like tone...

But i utilise my chorus in a different way. And my chorus is mostly switched on when I play. I only switched it off when I wanna go down and dirty....

My personal say. No poison.

To hell with chorus.

Anyway, chorus does give a nice chime+reverb kinda sound when balanced properly. Too much might sound irritating but can add that to one's creativity like shoegaze music and stuff.

I choose phaser(mildly) over chorus for so-called, 'quiet' parts.

to me chorus for guitar gives that very watery effect. Like the notes are flowing along a stream or sth. dayung sampan....

I second this. I mostly use my Chorus when I play church songs

Though, I would strongly suggest this setup if you're using a Chorus and playing worship songs -->

Reverb -> Delay -> just a lil bit of Phaser/ Compressor -> Chorus = Heavenly ambient sound! Ala Hillsongs / Eric Johnson (Clean)

Chorus effect is a necessity for my kind of music so it will still boils down to the guitarist own personal preference of sound.

I play mostly heavy metal and rock, so in actual fact, I barely use modulations or delay. Just drive and cleans for me. But of all effects available in the market, I like Chorus the most.

I don't know why, but I can't stand the sound of phasers, flangers (Ok la, I find some flange effect nice once in a while), reverb, etc. But I do like chorus, its quite nice and doesn't modify my tone too much unlike other effects.

I'd add a chorus to my rig actually, adds fatness and 'darkens' the tone for the gothic metal I sometimes play.

I'm a big fan of chorus... beefs up your clean tone, and adds a nice dimension to leads. I don't like using it with dirty rhythms because it tends to mush up the notes a bit... I wanted a BIG analog chorus, but I found the Artec Vintage Chorus to be quite malleable.

Though it's odd that this chorus has only one output...:mrgreen:
