I'm thinking of buying a ukulele

Any bros here into the uke? I do play guitar. Am interested in uke.

I've done some internet research and it seems that the average brand costs about $300 for such a small instrument.

My budget is $150 and hope to get a decent uke.

There's also a tenor, soprano and whatnot uke. Are those variants like the number of frets a guitar has?

Thanks!!!

Hmm i suppose Maestro has resonable ones. i saw it previously at their esplande outlet. But now its closed.
No worries they have many outlets.

i didnt know that maestro has ukulele's. issit their housebrand? how much is their entry ukes? im a member from there.

ive seen uke's movement webbie. the range is somewhere between mid 300 to low 1000s. quite out of my bite now.

ive asked www.ukulele.sg also as recommended by some bros, the owner is not quite interested in selling ukes but rather in persuading me to join their lessons.

There are Jack and Danny ukes at Ranking and Music theme. 80 bucks for the soprano size and @0 for the baritone size.

Soprano ukes are the smallest in the range and sound brighter. Tenor is inbetween and baritone is the biggest and it has a more mellow tone.

Ukuleles are fun to play and a lot more portable than a guitar. Of course it has it's limitations and imo are not as versatile.

Would it mean that having a baritone is like having a small small small scaled guitar ? Which in tht case means that the soprano has the special ukelele tone? The factor tht makes it special? Help!! Blur liao!
(something like its unique feature eg. tele twang)

Eh not really. Let's use guitar sizes to explain the uke sizes. Sopranos are kinda like the 3/4 sized guitars in the uke range. Tenors are the "Standard sized guitars" and baritones are like the jumbos. It's just the size. Guitar is guitar. Uke is uke. One has 6 strings, one has 4.

As for the tuning, it's GCEA. You can google ukulele tunings or search it up on Youtube if you're unsure. There are plenty of free resources that you can use on the internet to guide you.

theres also the concert size ukulele which is somewhere in between the soprano and tenor. Oh and its not that expensive to ship in ukuleles from oversea, it might even be cheaper (with shipping included) than getting it from any of the local dealers.

Hey there Reid

If you're seriously thinking of owning a uke, check out ukulele movement. Their prices are more than at Ranking - can go up to a couple of thou - but those they have sound better than any I've tried at Maestro or Ranking or wherever. But if you just want something to bash around, then yeah, Ranking cheaper.

As to what type to get? A concert uke is a safe bet. I use a concert and a soprano.

If you listen to James Hill, you'll know how versatile a uke can be. Ukulele Movement is along Bendemeer Road btw (but you might want to check out their website first).
