i'm a delay noob. help me

theres a few ways to know whether delay sounds good or not, some of it, the below

1) according to what other people say

2) according to how much you pay for the delay

3) according to how others play with their delay

4) according to how internet forum rave about some delay

5) according to how many delay we have played and finding out which fit in the context we want

6) according to our preference of delay, depending on choice 5)

7) according to what advertisment say

8 ) according to whether is it analog or digital

9) according to all the organic words, flowery description people use when talking bout delay

10) according to our own belief, depending on what we hear, in the delay

hehe, which one make sense, which doesnt, you decide...

does the mxr carbon copy retail for 199 at davis? i'm considering the artec 4 knob one.

anyone used it before? i tested it out at blackwood ystd. i do not know whether it sounds good or not.

I couldn't get along with the Artec hype.. Found it sounded too dry and dull..
When I use delay, I want people to know I'm using a delay, and at the same time not clog up my playing..
The Artec just felt like it was always lying under the mix..

i'm trading my ps-3 for a carbon copy tmr. dont have that feeling of anticipation like other pedals strangely. i'm just not a delay snob..

btw i saw this dudes thread on a carbon copy being fried by his one spot.

is this a issue of concern?

The carbon copy is very nice, it gives a very subtle delay if you like it that way. Some find it a little to subtle though.

Im using dotted 8ths on my dd7 for rhythm playing (i tap the delay according to the rhythm) and the H2o v2 for lead (short delay). Works very well to give me both a fuller rhythm and lead tone. Im using the 800 ms setting with tap tempo to get me the dotted 8ths delay sound.

I usually find that delays that are too high tech and digital with many features (like the nova) will colour your main tone. Not my cup of tea. I like my original signal intact with the delay as an additional topping, like how a slight dash of salt tastes good but does not overpower the actual taste.

I never saw that thread, didn't know how that dude fried his pedal but no issues for me powering my carbon copy with one spot together with 8 other pedals

i got the carbon copy ystd. its beautiful. for once i manage to tweak to something i actually like.

yeap and i'm using one spot. no problems whatsoever.

ized: why 800ms? i've been trying to get the dotted 8th thingy for fun. wont be pissed off i cant do it but u'm just curious. the carbon copy only can go up till 600ms which is nice for an analog delay.

i don't like the delay when i started playing years ago. i still don't like the delay effect after >10yrs of playing. i realize i actually don't need it instead of not liking it.

sub: i NEVER liked delay too. i got a delay pedal because i will be playing for church. so i thought i really have to learn how to use one properly.

yeap but other than that, i really nvr found a use for it. i only felt a good reverb was necessary.

Sub, do you think reverb in RV-3 is not natural? I find it quite metallic-like.

I use my h2o as some kinda short delay reverb to add depth to my solos too....short delay into long delays really works wonders :mrgreen:

its more or less still the same....although i noticed a slight volume boost when engaging the delay. Not that its a bad thing....only noticable if you'r running distortion into it. The volume boost helps cut through i guess.

The chorus side is slightly more "digital" sounding even though i know its 100% analog...the differences are very apparent when i a/bed both units side by side. Its more versatile than the older one though since you can now switch between lush and normal chorus modes. However due to the lack of a mix knob most ppl will find the chorus overbearing when running a dist through it... So its a bit of a one trick pony.More for cleans imo.

Overall, the v2 is a really good upgrade....especially since the footswitches are improved to the soft touch FET switching....like Boss. The pure tone buffer is awesome too, all my pedals seem to sound better with the h2o in the chain. I made the decision to go V2 cos of the V1's reliability issues...and I must say my H2O's really a keeper. If i could only have one delay pedal... This would be it.

Yeah, it's quite piercing at times and can get too digital BUT when you use it as Rhythm delay with Distortion, it's quite awesome. I now use my Echobox and use the RV3 for reverb... works well in our Music.
