When the product info just mentions IEEE 1394 does it mean 4-pin firewire or 6-pin firewire? Gonna get a pc laptop but after hearing many scary things abt windows....dunno if i still should (using a mac now)...

laptops are usually 4-pin firewire... can get an adaptor from most shops in sim lim for less than $10

I used to be a Mac user. Don't be worried about Windows. It's not that bad. It just take a little getting used to. If you don't install too much junk into it, it should be relatively stable. Are you using it as a DAW?

Digital Audio Workstation - ie using it for music/recording/sequencing etc.

Intended to get the windows platform to perform recording and also to tab out stuff using powertabs etc...but the mac can do the recordings and so getting a new com just for the tab editor is abit dumb....

If you're already using the Mac, indeed there's no point in getting a PC unless 1. your Mac is old and you're thinking of upgrading 2. you want to use software only available in the Windows platfrom.
