Anyone had any experience with it? Care to share?

I tried it before... and my take on it is... very heavy dist but man, its just... lets just say there are many better pedals around.

Even the MetalZone is better.

Or if you want budget, there is the Artec Crazy Metal for $80.

i had a smashbox a couple of years back

description of the smashbox for me would be tempura

really nice and crispy on the outside, but the insides all dry and erm....not so filling

tone wise, it was insane amounts of gain, nice for drop c tuning and nu-metal riffing, other than that, couldn't really get good tones out of it, and yar the noise gate does work

I have some other high gain pedals, but I would like to look into this, for the price.

How well does it stack against other pedals? Say, the TS/DS1?

I find the distortion really smooth (using the switch). There's a more hairy option, but don't really like it. Like the others said, if you're looking for a hard distortion, this is it. Noise gate works well. It doesn't stand out too well for solos, however its great for chugga chugga action.

Not sure if you should compare it to a ds1/ts cos I feel its a different animal all together. Besides you'll probably have to mod it. Sure you can get hard rock out of the ds1 and ts combo but doesnt quite get as extreme as the smash box.

I keep this as a spare when the band decides to do something heavier. Hope that helps.

Thanks, but I meant can it be boosted with the DS1 (Keeley) or the TS808 (Keeley)? How does it sound?

boosting a hard-type distortion is only necessary if you deem it lacking in drive. otherwise, get something less intense if you wish to boost it with a drive-type booster.

...but i boost my Dano Black Coffee/ NANO Muff anyway 8)

I was thinking whether it's possible to add "warmth" or some other characteristic from other pedals to the SM7, not necessarily because of lack of gain.

tone and warmth is on the opposite end of sustain/gain ya.

Having said that i believe a few tweaks with ur amp ....and playin loud as bedroom level is deceiving, will give you phatter tone !! :D
