Ibanez Depreciation Value??

95% ??

don't think many people want old RG price is much cheaper than new one.

they make so many so there is always one with specs you need.

have you ever wished that U had 1999 RG XYZ1234 ???

At this moment, NO! Me, a newbie.

From your input, it sounds like once you bought one RG,
the resale value will be quite low then after 5 years.

Do see your point. hmmmmmm

Sounds like buying a second hand RG will be much
better than getting a new one....

I had a RG once......good guitars and value if you get used.

also consider they are popular so when you sell your RG 1234 then are probably 5 other guys trying to sell their RG 1234 !

As a gauge, as long as an item is 2nd hand (be it a day old or 10 years); you are looking at realistically finding a buyer at 50-65% of the present product price.

Having said that, there are cases where demand exceeds supply and the item sells closer to the original price or in rare cases, higher. These are of course, exceptions to the rule.

Hope this info helps ..

Since most, if not all of the guitars are mass
produce which include the lower end RG
Ibanez, my guess would be the resale value would
be around 50 to 60 percent discount
from its original price.... right.

It depends.

RGs with the old Edge / lopro Edge systems can fetch a nice price. Why? Because the old Edge/LoPros are regarded as THE floyd system. Plus, since its a licensed floyd, you can interchange between licensed floyds and the OFR easily. I'll say, if you got an RG with the Edge system, and you changed the pups to dimarzios or something, you can go for up to 60% of the original. If its in dead mint condition and Prestiege series, even 70%.

The RGs with the TRS or non-Edge systems will fetch a much lower price. 40%?

Ibanez, IMO does not possess the cult 'relic' value when it comes to the RG series or any other models which are on current production/ discontinued. the Ibanez which holds a strong re-sale value are the lawsuit models, George Benson signatures & selected ohter jazz boxes.

currently, the JEM/ JS models holds a good 70% of its original price in the after-market. even signatures on your Ibanez guitars can't appreciate the overall worth of the guitar. so don't go asking Marty Friedman to sign your guitar in the upcoming clinic & hope for aprreciation in value...

That is my point. Guess... Ibanez model like 321MH will
be selling at a discount of 40% or 50% discount then, right.
Since its a fixed bridge.

yeah man true. ive got a rg550ex.. got like 1.2k back 2 yrs ago. now...people willing to offer me 500 only.

its mint condition btw.. zzz with hardcase.

i think it's because most buyers of Ibanez RG/S/JEM series are the "superstrat" users - guitars with 24 frets, floyd rose trem, sleek wizard necks and a heavy sound. Imo without these set of features, there are a lot of other Brands and models you can choose from instead.

the other thing is that Ibanez has become a very big brand in Singapore and there are a lot of 90s Ibanez RGs floating around the local used market. it has become supply outstripping demand in that sense so the value of Ibanez RGs depreciate quite a lot here.

The more i delve into this brand, the least i want to
get it esp the lower end RG model, esp for a newbie
like me.

Would rather pay less for brand like those cheap
Samick or Craftman. I am speaking from a non
hardcore fan perspective.

Some people, once acquired a good guitar, there
is no intention to sell then it will be a different case.

if u don't mind, you can always scour for a secondhand RG. of course, many people shun secondhands (no idea why... I love secondhands!) and when u sell it... it doesn't depreciate that further. after all, parts are still parts, guitars are still guitars.

Its kinda risky for a newbie to acquire a second hand
guitar... Especially, when newbie know nothing what
to spot for.. right.. Will definitely check out
those made in China or Indonesia guitar... Since
they are all machine made... hee hee.. :P

imo RGs are my fav guitars..i cannot live without them...but i haf to admit after say 4-5 yrs of constant usage...the metal on the bridge peels off. Although i've been playng for onli 2 yrs...i've already seen discolouration on my 3month old rg. One more thing, ibanez pickups do not last...always weaken quite quickly:)

Discolouration comes really quickly man. Only about a month after i bought my RG the bridge was discolouring.
