This sat im going to buy a multi-effects processor. Either GT8 or PODxt with the FVB shortboard. Which 1 would be better? I play mostly metal. Lead tone would be like John Petrucci. I've also ordered a 535Q from www.music123.com, so i would use the other expression pedal for volume control. My guitars are Musicman John Petrucci & JS1000. Pls help!!! Thanks

i'll take the GT-8...i am using the GT-6 currently and i wish i had more $ to get the GT-8..dun get the POD XT with FBV board..i did that and regretted dearly..unless u are doing more recording than live playing...get the GT-8..PODS seem to be more for studio recording..the VT sounds terrible and is really hard to switch during live playing and change patches...

den id say with the xt live ull be sorely disappointed to hear that the gain is extremely scratchy and lacking in sustain. not too sure abt the boss cos ive not tried it but i highly recommend the vox tonelab SE. a little weighty but id say its one of the most amp like fx processors ive heard so far. can mimic the high gain amps pretty accurately. being a gain freak myself i recommend the vox.

Yea give the vox a try, I've tried it before, it was my favourite among all the multi efx at city music, and out of all the clips i have heard, the vox impresses me the most.

Actually the vox seems to do very high gain tones very poorly. The POD does it but with the usual POD characteristics. The GT8 usually does damn well, especially in live performances.

The vox is wonderful for lower gain stuff, and easily the warmest of the bunch.

i had the vox. The high gain stuff is lacking. If your going for low mid gain warm blues stuff, the vox is it, closest thing to emulating a tube amp among the 3 efxs.

if you want high screaming metal style gain, your much better off with the GT8 or the POD.

go get urself a Randall Amp. Dimebag used to use those.

I will get a tube amp in the future. but for now, i need a multi-effects processor. Randall Amps are good! Michael Angelo Batio uses it too. But for me, If i have the $$$, i will get a Mesa Boogie amp, although both amps are related

Look bro like we said, tonelabs not good for high gain, i assume your running ur multi tru a pa or keyboard amp right.

Find some time go try the pod and the GT, dun buy expensive gear based on what ppl say on forums, ultimately your the one using it.

Hey leecs, Ciel speaks the truth. You got the spending power, but hold your horses and go try the gear first. You're not a noob, you have been playing for some time now, you would (vaguely/roughly) know what you want already.

Check the SHARE thread stickied above, there are ppl with gear you might want to check out.

If you ask me, I would just say get a Tech21 GT2. Then run it thru a 12" speaker equipped keyboard amp.

HI shredcow! Im playing through a Marshall MG15CDR. I will heed your advice & go check out PODxt & GT8.

WAIT.

Did you say MG15CDR?

Dude, forget the multiefx unless you are gigging.

Get a better amp. Really. Forget abt upgrading your efx, your amp is really.. I mean, you guitars man! Get an amp to match the quality of your guitars!

hmmm wat guitar you using?

hmm :D
I seem to have been down this road many times

Alright firstly the answer to your question:
If a multi effect IS what YOU want:
The BOSS gt-8 definitely gives better tones than the POD XT(live or no live),provided that you are willing to tweak it and also frequent the BOSS forums, some amazing guys there
The POD is a plug download and play interface, its good at what it does, but frankly its tones arent as good as the GT-8.

But in the end Shred is right,it might seem that a multi effect is gonna give you what you want, but in the end you will be dissatsified just a small 5% and you wont know where...and thats what you attribute true analgo sound to.

Get a Sansamp and nice Keyboard Amp,you seem like you have some money,so I am guessing you should have no problem building up yuopr rig in a few months. :D

cheers

ps,Currently playing through a gt-8,need a Sansamp
