im real sloppy at keeping up to date with new music...and im sure this wont be new to those who might have heard it...but i just listened thru chinese democracy, and i was like...wtf? its not a bad album, but after 15 yrs of hype, erm..is this it? am i not the only one with such an opinion?

probably only 2-3 songs perked my interest up a bit...but im having difficulty recalling how they sound like now cos they are pretty hookless. other than it was really over processed. no more trainwrecks, no more booze, no more sleaze. cant think of any reason for this to be released now...it should have stayed in perpetual hype. at least people would have accorded some curiousity and eagerness to a band that once was on top of the big hair scene.

I haven't tried listening the Chinese Democracy yet, still listening to the old batch GnR 80s 90s songs hehe. Of course, i also miss them and wish they reunite?

This is like the third thread in recent times that talks about Guns and Roses and Chinese Democracy... :?

Just goes to show that no matter what ppl say, at the end of the day Axl is still the ultimate victor.... GNR marketing genius

Didn't even want to listen to Chinese Democracy after hearing 1 or 2 tracks...

The band I really miss? Metallica! I'm talking about the Metallica of old. There was once a thread in another forum asking people to list "songs that make you sad", most people came up with the usual run of soppy love songs. My contribution however was a video from Metallica's heyday! Haha! It makes me sad because of what they have become of late...whatever happened to the Four Horsemen of Legend??

IMO, the best lineup for GNR is as follows:

Drummer - Steven Adler
Bassist - Duff Mckagan
Lead Guitar - Saul Hudson
Rhythm Guitar - Izzy Stradlin
Vocals - William Bruce Rose

Even though they weren't exactly technically proficient in their instruments (at that point of time), they were the only true Rock`n`Roll band back then. The critics and the media couldn't find a genre for Guns N Roses. GNR was unique and unlike the hair metal bands or metal bands. There were no other bands that were similar to GNR at that point of time. The moment the members started to leave one by one due to the complications with Axl Rose marked the inception of the downfall of GNR. This downfall can be evidently heard in the Chinese Democracy album. Listen to the old GNR albums like 'Spaghetti Incident' and 'Use Your Illusion I & II' compared to Chinese Democracy and that would probably shed some light on the distinct difference.

Nevertheless, I miss the old GNR. I hope one day GNR would have some sort of a one-off 'reunion' gig but chances are slim.

However, for any bands of the past (metallica,GNR etc), it is not wrong to change their original sound. This is due to consumers' trends and the media. The consumers of today have different 'ears' or musical preferences. Now if you claimed that 'Metallica' is metal and the 'real deal', some punk would say 'No way, A Day To Remember is metal, Metallica is crap.' Times have changed. This is probably the musical revolution over the years of various 'trending' genres. Henceforth, the old birds have to change their style of music to suit the younger demanding crowds.
