I heard KoRn on sunday night radio.

Just curious, since when did radio start playing such "heavy" stuff? (okay maybe un-mainstream stuff, in local context?) Don't count Linkin Park because they're just ...a mild form of nu-metal. Don't count Limp Bizkit because they're, uh just bad and radio stations play weird music most of the time.

Tell me, with programmes like "Rock Revolution" and "The Edge" coming out on radio these days, are rock and radio converging (in local context)? Is singapore ready for a full-out rock radio station? I certainly look forward to it someday..though the abovementioned programmes pretty much still suck. :(

Or are nu-metal bands or ____metal bands becoming mainstream too quickly these days?

Sorry for the lot of random questions!

Just a quick one: be nice to this thread please? :)

Thanks for your opinions k

the newer korn stuff, seems like they're going mainstream. twisted transistor and all that stuff. rock on the radio? if its good stuff and not some poppy punk stuff(note for a rocknroll channel), why not? maybe they can devote half the show to playing local stuff. power 98 seems to have stop playing local stuff :?

twisted transistor is totally off lor. the video is funny though :P

hmm poppy punk? like what sorts of bands? cos i like pop punk too, i dont condemn them just cos they're songs are catchy. Although this genre is TOTALLY saturated now :(

local stuff sounds good. they're really good bands out there who dont get the attention they deserve.

another thing i hate about radio is that even when they play NIN they have to censor the expletives. Please, if u wanna spoil the song might as well not play it! RAAR >:(

yeah snoop dog. seeing snoop at metallica icon at MTV was strange. and a complete blasphemy of sad but true too.

pop punk? stuff like simple plan,GC,greenday. i have nothing personal against them, i do enjoy some of their songs. but they are already getting massive airwaves. if you listened to the radio about 3 months back, perfect by simple plan was played everyday, almost every hour. so if you want to make a different programme altogether, play some stuff that's not usually heard on the radio. Ac-dc, led zepp, whitesnake. you get what i mean

as far as local bands go, wish they play stuff from force vomit or stoned revivals :(

if you produce a record mainstream enough, even if you're dark funeral radio will play you.

btw, on what station does 'rock revolution' and 'the edge' air on? id like to take a listen. and i think a rock radio station would be really cool. we already have a classics station, a jazz station.

green day is bloody annoying for the whole of 2005, I mean they're everywhere! yeah sometimes when you get too much of a good pop song, it totally blows heh.

ooh whitesnake. me love. :) yeah how come they don't play songs from Poison? Hahaha. :D The rock programmes seem to have the same playlist every week! If it's not Bon Jovi, it's probably Def Leppard. And they're always the same predictable songs. :'(

alright dude i'm totally pooped out and i've got lessons early morning. tata! :)

I love Lush 99.5FM <3

THE EDGE
Sundays 3pm - 4pm - Vernon A

"Call them unconventional and cutting edge music, songs by artists like The Flaming Lips, Chemical Brothers, Beck and The Eels will now have a place in Perfect Ten 98.7FM’s Saturday late night show – THE EDGE."

ROCK REVOLUTION
Sundays 5pm - 8pm - Super Mario

"The only radio show that plays the best rock music of today and yesterday! Get hooked on to the sounds of Velvet Revolver, Alter Bridge, Linkin Park, Matchbox 20, The Calling, Maroon 5, Lenny Kravitz, Guns & Roses, Queen, The Rolling Stones, Eagles, Led Zeppelin, Deep Purple, Jason Mraz, Pearl Jam, Radiohead, Coldplay, Incubus, Trapt, Puddle Of Mud, Stone Temple Pilots, Metallica, Jane's Addiction, The Darkness, The Strokes, Kings Of Leon, Evanescence, and more!! - ROCK REVOLUTION"

There you go! :) It's totally the battle of the "rock" radios.

Well rock and metal music have been played for a number of years already. Some of which are underground bands. To name one is Skinless, a death metal band. And that radio station is Ria Rock, 89.7 . It's a malay radio station actually and the DJ do know his stuff. Because he is none other than Urban Karma's frontman, Burhan.

So if you all got the time do check it out on Friday live at 5 pm and a repeat telecast on Sunday at 9 pm. The show has pretty good segments. Theres was once where they play a game where you have to guess which band their playing on air is from. The band which I was listening at that time was pretty heavy, something like Megadeth. And guess what, that band was from Bangladesh. Yep that's what they said and I'm not kidding.

So I hope this little promotion has got you a bit interested. No harm in checking it out.

that would be selling out wouldnt it?

I've thought about it for a long time, but I can never come out with a strict defintion for selling out. What do you think?
Personally, I just don't want to hear bengs and lians humming Crystal Mountain and the likes.

You probably get the idea.

i rmb that i once heard chop suay! from system of a down on radio b4...forgot which station...shld be either perfect 10 or power 98

chop suey on local radio? noooooo wayyyy..

anyways..i would really love to see or erm hear a rock radio in sg..be the likes of kerrang and Q..but then kerrang is getting pretty stale cos they kept on repeating the same few songs...kinda annoying but still it's all rock..that's most important...

or maybe soft can chope a place in the airwaves ah..play local bands and int'l rock.. :D

What would kick ass would be hearing older stuff, or newer less heard of stuff. Like imagine tuning in and hearing Scarified or something, that's what i'm talking bout. The MTV "rock" show has an unbelievably poser looking presenter ... Yeah man ... ROCKZZ \m/

Watch it...Green Day isn't annoying but the person who chooses the song to get played on the airwave is. But if you mean the touring, they haven't come to Singapore yet so they were not everywhere.

protector to the rescue. nah what i think he means is that they got massive airwaves for 2005. beginning of the year was american idiot, towards th end was when september ends. radio, mtv were playing those 2 songs almost everyday. so you get what he means. i hope

I do get what he means...and I do admit that some of their songs are being overplayed...but it isn't Green Day's fault that their music is so damn good.

actually i kinda liked wake me up when september ends and boulevard, kinda catchy

how dare you insult limp bizkit, wahahahahahha, anw limp bizkit isn't that bad, or are you another 1 of those idiots that go around bashing every mainstream band that "sellsout", do take some time to hear some of the cooler stuff from bizkit, and even fred durst has sorta vocal dynamics

strats: :) :) :) Oh I'm a girl, haha.

jeremyrozario: Nuh-uh I think Bizkit sorta started to suck after Wes Borland left. He's the only member I really ever liked. :/ OK maybe not entirely against the band but more of against Fred Durst. He can be quite a laughingstock if you know what I mean. :D

DarknessFury : I didn't say I didn't enjoy American Idiot. In fact I thought it was quite a miracle that every single track on the album was amazing. I just couldn't hate it. Yeah agreed, it's not their fault they're overhyped, overplayed on emptyvee and other channels, but y'know the audience tend to get tired of seeing the same bands winning the same awards for more than a period of time. Think of one! Hope it's clear what I feel :) Well they better come, because I sure as hell would pay to watch them! :D Thay're fine beyond their own era. :)
