Hum on Blackheart BH5-112

I bought a Blackheart BH5-112 combo amp recently, brand new. This is my first tube amp and I noticed that there is some significant hum when the volume is past 12. The amp does not hum at all with nothing plugged in.

I already eliminated the possibilty of any issue with the guitar or cables and I will be grounding the plug soon once I get the parts but in the mean time does anyone have experience with this amp? Is such a level of buzz normal? The reason I ask this is that I have tried a the non combo version of this amp before and it is much quieter than my new amp.

Thanks!

Are you using single coils or humbuckers? Is the power cord to your amp grounded? How much gain are you playing with?

Do not recall it having humming issues even past 12.

Get it grounded and see how it is.
When you say that it's not the guitar and cable, I assume you tried it with other guitars and cables?
And as above, how's the gain level, what pedals, patch cables, etc.

So many variables, have to work through them one by one.

(:

Thanks for the replies,

Yes I've tried the amp with other guitars and cables. I have humbuckers on my current guitar, SD Jazz/JB. The amp hums even when connected straight through.

I've tried playing my guitar through the head-only version before, there was no buzz there so I figured it has to be my amp. To check if it was the speaker issue I tried connecting my amp to a cabinet (It has 8 Ohm outputs), same buzz.

I have the same problem on my Blackstar HT 5 too. It would help a lot if you could explain to me how grounding the plug works? Tried goggling but have no idea what they're saying haha

Edit: I just saw the sticky on it. But then my HT 5 already comes with a 3 pin plug. Does it mean that its grounded already? Hmmm....

yes, if you have a 3 pin, your amp is most probably grounded.

does the amp have significant hum when you're pluged in with humbucker selected? or only when single coil is engaged?

The blackstar is already grounded, either you're using a lot of gain or something in your rig is faulty.. Btw, the OP is about a blackheart not blackstar.

I'm running a Epi LP thru it direct, so only humbuckers. The thing hums even when i mute the guitar by turning the vol all the way down. Anyway i'll do more tests on it before deciding what to do. I highly suspect its due to interference from something. Just have to find out what lol.

Thanks for the reply though =)

Hmmm, i do use a lot of gain, but then again that's why i bought the blackstar in the first place =)
Yup, i realise the OP was about a blackheart. Just thought since we're talking about amps in general i could ask some questions too.

Hope no one is offended =)

my ht-5 is rather silent even on full gain. you might want to check out your cables. does it still have the static sound when the cable is unplugged from the input?
