Hughes & Kettner Tubeman Test

Im really interested in getting the Tubeman for recording and maybe for live also. And im looking for more info bout this thing before buying..maybe in the next 2 or 3 months.. :P

This thing is meant for direct recording or connect to a PA or FX return of an amp. Its not recommended to connect to the instrument input of an amp. Thats what the manual says. Yeah u know preamp connected to another preamp might sound crap.

But look at this video. I might be wrong but isn't it connect to the instrument input of the marshall amp. Its sounds pretty good to me. reminds me of Dimebag Darrell abit.

Well, you can connect such devices to an amp's input, but if you don't know how to tweak or you are using an amp that sounds different (in a bad sense) from the device, then you might have a problem.

Thing is this, the device sounds like it should, when going straight to power amp --> speaker. Thats what is key. Sounding like it should.

But if you run your device, which has say a FAT distortion tone, into the input of a nice bright jangly amp... you see how it might not work out?

If you know how to tweak and stuff, yes, you can get away with it.

between direct recording and going straight into the amp input, if its sound good to the user and he/she is happy with it to come up with any music using the effect, the right and wrong usage sometime is secondary...

imho

yeah thats what i tot too..
lesson learn here is that preamp connected to another preamp doesn't mean crap. Use your blain..use your blain and ears too..

actually preamp to preamp, is not really that bad, imho. The additional colouring of tone sometime is not a bad thing as it provide additional eq control to further shape the sound.

Why some dont like it, can be due to the thought of preamp on preamp that hide the true sound of how the piece of equipment shud be.

Methinks its usually that... I mean, if you made the box to sound like that, you wouldn't want it to sound another way... or something... uh... yeah! :D

heh, iam from the sch of less is more but more is still more. Right or wrong is never the issue when it can do what i want it to other than what the thing is suppose to do. As long dont spoilt it, its ok :D

aiyah..the thing is Tubeman delivers for recording or live. Shredcow got a point. In fact , everybody got a point.

Lets us tink this way. Even if we make a perfect record that doesn't guarantee ppl at home will listen what is meant to be heard. The sound in the studio is not equal to the sound u listen at home or in your car.
We all have our own hifi, mp3 players, earphones, headphones at home. The amplifiers, speakers, mp3 decoders in these devices have their own voicings. Still some will not hear what is meant to be heard.

The rule is as long as it sounds good to your ears when u play/record, then i tink everything will be fine.

damnesia, chill (if you are heating up), we're just having discussion lah...

hehehe. :D

Anyway you brought up a veyr impt point IMO. That the player must like what he hears... not so much of "the audience wouldn't get it so why bother?" kind of attitude which is sort of... anti-tone, and tone is the pride of the guitarist.

are we talkin POP or dirty rock here ??

Nowadays you don't even need a guitar to get a guitar sound !!

Ur tone needs muscle to be able to be milked .. either live or studio...so just do whats necessary !!

To my ears, guitar direct (minus amp-cables-speaker-air-mic) is lame !!

..im browsing for more potential pedals.. :P

Google for this... Koch Amps

They have something that would kill the H&K. At least in terms of size.
