I am Tharenii...

I wanna record drum tracks by myself... i wanna know how you do it?

like i wanna mic my drums up (actually my drummer's drums up). and do a recording.
Just doing it as a hobby. I wanna have the drums recorded track by track.. like snare on another track, bass on another track etc etc.. how can that be done...

Please keep ur ideas flowing fellow softies...
If possible do tell me the cost which would be incurred... thank you!

If you are recording with a computer, you will need an audio interface. Something that have enough microphone inputs. You will need quite a number of microphones.

Budget about $2000.

thanks brother.. but is it possible you could tell me more about these interfaces?
like send me a link about it... and what mics i should use

What is your budget? It would be easier to recommend if you know how much you want to spend.

dont really have one... perhaps 1000 bucks... but thats not the problem because me and a few friends are willing to work to get it man!

so please include the details thank you brother

thanks bro.. that did help me..

But it did not answer my question bro..

I wanna know how to mic the drums! hehe... please do tell me bro

Bass Drum = 1 mic
Snare = 1 mic
Tom 1 = 1 mic
Tom 2 = 1 mic
Floor Tom = 1 mic
Hi-hats = 1 mic
Overhead Left = 1 mic
Overhead Right = 1 mic

Total 8 mic.

You need at least another 8 microphone stands plus 8 microphone cables.

These will then be connected to the audio interface (computer) or stand-alone multitrack recorder.

As for "How to position the microphone", there is not hard rules but position the microphones so that they are not in the drummer's way. Getting the perfect drum sound is a jounary. Most sound engineers are still trying to get there.
